Put on probation, can I get a license in another state?

I was put on probation in 2018 because when it was time to renew my license, I didn't disclose that I had been fired. I tried very many places to get hired but with no luck. Since then, in 2023, the board has a zoom meeting with me to decide whether or not they would release my probation. They said that since I have been out of the Nursing field that long that I'd have to take a refresher course and after that I'd have to work a yr under another nurse before the probation can be lifted. Can I get another license in Michigan?

The Michigan Nursing Licensing Guide states:

Verification of Licensure – Verification of licensure must be submitted directly to our office by the licensing agency of any state of the United States or country in which you hold or ever held a license. The verification must show that disciplinary proceedings are not pending against the applicant and sanctions are not in force at the time of application.

This seems to say that your license must be unencumbered to be endorsed to Michigan. However, you could always try, although you would be out the $212.00 application fee. Alternatively, you could contact the Michigan BON directly with your question.

If you apply, you would be required to verify endorsement through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing's (NCSBN's) NURsys system, which would send records of your license status and probation to the Michigan Board of Nursing (BON).

I hope this helps with your decision,

Nurse Beth
