just for clarification.. when a patient is on a mechanical soft diet are liquids always gonna be thin unless there is an order for thickened liquids (to take medications)?.
also, when a patient is on puree diet they're supposed to take their meds with thickened liquids unless it stats "with thin liquids" in the mar. correct?

Not in my world. For me aspirations precautions means thickened liquids. The diet is just a diet and can be different based on teeth (or lack thereof), sore throat, ill fitting dentures, a strange liking to baby foods...
anyone else?

Every where I have work they have been separated.
On thin unless specified otherwise

Same as SolaireSolstice - the consistency of the food is a separate issue from the consistency of the fluids.
