Pulse Ox

Published

This might be a really dumb question, but I am wondering if I can use my regular pocket pulse ox on pedi patients?

Or will I need to buy a special pediatric one? Right now my patients are 10mo, and 5 y/o.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.
I do wonder if the agency's equipment misreads data what would happen?

My other agency supplies thermometers and electronic bp cuffs.

The agency is responsible to ensure equipment is calibrated and receives manufacturer preventative maintenance. If equipment fails and they did not, the agency could be liable for damages as well as a nurse who fails to report malfunctioning equipment.

If a patient does not have a thermometer the agency supplies I've to be used for the patient. Too risky for cross contamination plus reading variability for a nurse to bring their own for PDN. A digital thermometer to be used for axillary temps can be bought for less than $5.
