Hi,
I am writing a paper on pulmonary edema. What I am trying to figure out is how blood ends up in the alvioli that produces the pinkish foammy sputum. do the capillaries burst under the pressure or what?
Thank you for any answers,

Here are some websites:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pulmonary-edema/DS00412/DSECTION=causes
In cases of severe pulmonary edema, these symptoms will worsen to:
http://www.answers.com/topic/pulmonary-edema-causes-and-symptoms:
"frothy, bloody fluid containing pus coughed from the lungs (sputum)http://www.healthline.com/galecontent/pulmonary-edema#causesandsymptoms"
"The life-threatening type of pulmonary edema occurs when a large amount of fluid suddenly shifts from the pulmonary blood vessels into the lung, due to lung problems"
I'm sure your patho text has good info as well. Check the index.

you can find a list of websites to use for researching this kind of stuff on this sticky thread on the nursing student assistance forum which you might want to bookmark:
pathophysiology of medical diseases and conditions, which is what you are looking for when you are asking how a manifestation of a medical condition of pulmonary edema occurs, can usually be found in the merck manual and in the articles on emedicine. pulmonary edema is most commonly associated with heart failure.
