Community health as a new nurse...

Specialties Public/Community

I'm a new RN (Associate Degree) and I want terribly to work in community health. (I worked in an FQHC as an MA.) I am willing to relocate if I have to, and I was wondering if there's anywhere in particular, areas or cities or something with large community health provider networks, that you all suggest looking.

Thanks so much!

IME, most community health agencies require a BSN.

There's about two other recent threads on this (more answers there if your curious). It depends on the location. I was willing to drive and I got a position, new grad with just an ADN.

At Belle: Can you share your experience so far working in public health with no hospital experience? Do you enjoy it?

Where I work there are a couple new nurses who were hired with an ADN so it is possible.

Look at the big cities that are known for a large underserved population, usually minorities, who have had little in the way of supsport and education. Health Departments are really beginning to close ranks now on the ADN/BSN controversy. I was hired with my ADN several years ago but now I would not be qualified. All nurse positions now require at least a BSN. So work fast.
