  1. My first job out of nursing school was as a PHN so it is possible to do. I don't think every state or county will consider new grads though so you need to look into it.
  2. I never wanted to work in a hospital and was able to get a job in public health as a new grad. I don't know if this is an option for you since different states have different requirements about who they will hire into these positions but it is worth checking out. Good luck!
  3. My first RN job was as a PHN. I never wanted to work in the hospital so I was happy when I landed that job! I haven't met anyone yet that loves working in the hospital so I have never felt I was missing out on anything.
  4. I have in the past and would do so again.
  5. I did my child abuse course through Zur and the BON accepted it.
  6. You will need to plan ahead for each move or it can be stressful. Go to the BON website of the state you are moving to and see what their requirements for endorsing your license to their state is. I would start the application process as soon as you have orders because some states take longer than others to issue a license. I think for licenses with multi state privilege they are valid in any state that is a member of the compact, as long as you do not change residency from the state that initially issued your license.
  7. I'm thinking about this route but not sure how marketable it is.
  8. I love public health!! I wear many hats so it is always interesting. I would have to say the only con is the low pay.
  9. A friend of mine left bedside nursing to do telephonic nursing and she loves it....I say go for it!
  10. Difference between public health and acute care, why do you want to work in public health, and several scenario questions pertaining to the area(s) in which they have vacancies.
  11. I only put paid work experience unless it specifies otherwise. If there is not a place that specifically asks for the certifications I would upload them and attach copies to the application or mention them in a cover letter. If they are asking for your naturalization number I would provide it; wouldn't want anything to disqualify my application. Hope you get the job!
  12. i was able to land a job after being out of school 4 years. Like the previous poster I would not recommend it but sometimes life happens!
  13. I was in a similar situation a couple years ago so I chose to do public health, and I love it. The hours and working conditions are great. I do CEU's online and if my kids are sick I have a sitter that comes over if I can't take the day off.
  14. Where I work there are a couple new nurses who were hired with an ADN so it is possible.
