pto/sick time

Published

hello.

im donnie and new to allnurses. i work for a dialysis unit owned by a large multinational corp. we dont have pto or sick days for the "non-management" employees. i was just wondering if this was a common practice or am i just being unrealistic.

A large corporation that doesn't offer PTO? That doesn't make any sense. Unless I'm mistaken, since Gambro's US operations were acquired by DaVita, that leaves only one major multinational dialysis company: FMC. DaVita had PTO and extended illness leave. I have never worked for FMC but I have worked around them and interviewed several of their nurses whose major complaint is pay, but I've never heard of no PTO. But since your company is a large corporation they should have HR available to you to ask these questions. I have to wonder if your administrator has maybe just cut it out temporarily due to low staffing or if your particular center is just giving y'all the shaft?

Most companies do have a 90-day or so waiting period once you're hired before you can take advantage of time off benefits but I can't imagine one not having any available to any of their non-management staff at all, ever.

Not FMC....first year accrual is 200 hrs....7.69 per pay period....can't use it for the first six months then just after your six months you'll have 100 hrs....

No, I didn't think it would be the case with FMC. They HAVE to be competitive with everyone else at least. I have to wonder if Donnie has misunderstood the policy and just can't access the PTO time yet.

That's unusual, I work for RCG, soon to merge with FMC and we get 8.0 hours per 40hour work week.

Wow, thats bad, I work in a cancer center in WNY and we get 5 personal days the day you are hired (renewed yearly) and then earn 4 hours of sick time per pay period, it accrues up quickly.

I recently quit Davita after 7 years but they pay both PTO and EIL (Extended Illness Leave).

Don't know who you work for... but I personally wouldn't be happy... sounds like someone is giving you false info.

Specializes in Hemodialysis, Home Health.

Dunno.... Don may be right.

I have heard somewhere that FMC is doing a "trial run" at one of the really large FMC facilites in TX and that at this particular unit they were doing this very thing. You get paid for the hours you WORK. Non management get no PTO/sicktime. I think it was to cut the call-ins.

Something to the effect of you can work all the hours you want or NOT want, but what you work is what you will get paid for.

Don't know if this "trail run" was successful or not, or if it's still in effect. If hte company LIKES it, then I'm sure FMC will pass it on to ALL their facilities.
