Anyone a current or past student of PTEC LPN program?

Any info to share? What amount of "points" did you need to get in?

I am a current student of the on-line LPN program. Although I cannot speak for the daytime program, I would advise you to stay well away from the on-line program. The course work is very poorly planned, it is almost impossible to get any sort of assistance from the instructor (she teaches this course, is a full-time nurse practitioner, is in med school, and also recently adopted a baby), and a good deal of the administration has no idea what the heck is going on.

This has been one of the worst educational experiences I have ever had. (Most of my classmates agree.)

Again, I am speaking specifically of the on-line program. I have heard mixed reviews on the daytime course. If you do go with PTEC, try to register at the St Pete campus. They seem to keep it together a bit more than the Clearwater campus.

Personally, I would rather have paid 4 times the cost and have gone to a better school.

that is very discouraging to me .... especially when i've completed my entire aa degree online via spc, with the exception of a few classes that need to be taken on campus. i was so looking forward to being accepted to the august class, now i'm doubting i've made the right decision. i turned down galen after being accepted .... moreso because of the expense to attend.

what specifically do you not like about the online part of the course? i know from the classes i've taken, that there is a ton more work to be had for the online students, as opposed to those who attend on campus, but that is to be expected when taking classes online. (at least from my experience)

could you please elaborate a bit more?

Wow this is discouraging. I was applying for that program as well. How is the clinical portion of the class going?

reinvent ...... i heard there were less than 40 applications turned in for the program starting in august. that is somewhat encouraging news, considering the amount at the orientation :coollook: here's hoping we both get into the program :yeah:

and for the record: i think you get what you give to an online course. there is a lot of self-discipline needed to succeed in any course, but more so in an online course. don't let anyone discourage you -- if you give 100%, you will reap the benefits in the long run.

I agree. I've taken online classes for the last few semesters so I'm pretty used to it by now. Not to mention that it was the first online class PTEC has tried so that is probably why it was "poorly planned." The second time around they should have learned from what was good and what wasn't and improve.

What amount of points did you have? I had 6 plus the the 8 points for the READI. Wow, I can't believe there was less than 40 because there was a LOT of people at that meeting. Hopefully it works out for us then

There are other great LPN programs out there. Try Galen. More expensive but worth the money.

i applied to galen and was accepted. no problem. the problem there is money! i did not qualify for student loans because of my income level, but yet, even at my income level, i cannot afford galen. galen staff was so nice when they thought i'd be their meal ticket, but after thinking long and hard about it, i declined. the staff's attitude from that point on was like nigh and day! before declining, i'd send an email, make a call, leave voicemail, etc. and get a response back from them within minutes some times. after declining, they never, ever returned my calls/emails. they are quite rude imo.

here's the long and short of why i chose ptec: money! i have long term goals. my goal is to complete the lpn program at ptec, continue on to spc lpn-rn bridge program and then obtain my bsn. ptec costs about 15k for their lpn program, another 17k for the rn program. their rn program is not accredited - yet. so, their courses will not transfer to uf, usf, spc, etc. now, i realize there are many posts on here about "don't worry that it is not accredited. you can move on for your bsn at university of phoenix." ok, while that may be true, by the time you finshed with your bsn, you would have spent well over 60k for student loans. should you go the route i plan on taking, i'll spend a fraction of that cost. for example, the lpn program at ptec is roughly 5k, which includes books, supplies, uniforms and tuition. another 7k for spc, and maybe another 7k for the bsn. do the math! i'd rather wait and go down the road i plan on traveling, than down the road paying back 60k plus in student loans.

to each his/her own, but i'd much rather have my rn degree stating i earned it from a respectable school - spc and my bsn to be something i'd be proud of showing uf, usf or spc. how many doctor offices have you been in where their degrees hanging on the wall said "university of phoenix?"

well, i just got my rejection letter. i don't get it. i scored 94 on my teas too. let me know if you get in or not.

Are you serious? I only scored a 85.3 on my TEAS and received an email saying I was accepted as the first alternate if anyone should decide to drop from the original roster. But I also had some points from having my A.A. degree and working in the medical field. It really sucks because considering it's an online program, I really doubt anyone would decide to not do the class unless they find out they got into a R.N. program as well.

So, what are you gonna do now? Are you gonna wait to reapply for the next class in January or try something else? I'm still not sure.
