I have read on here that there are a few that did not like this program. I was accepted to begin this August in the online program and was wondering if anyone has any tips for me. And if there is anyone else here that is starting then.

i'm going to guess you had more than ten points if you got into the program because i had 14 points with a 85.3 on the teas and was only accepted as the first alternate if anyone withdrew from the roster.

flg8r36,
I can't send private messages until I have made 15 posts apparently. I can't apply for the day program because I can't leave my job right now as a single parent. It's good money and I'm in the process of moving out of my parent's into my own place with my son so I can't really depend on less income than what I'm making right now. Not to mention it's also great health care experience. I was thinking about re-applying for the January online class like I already said, and to also maybe apply for Erwin's night class that starts in August 2010. It is so far away but in the meantime I can take pre-req's for the bridge program. It just sucks because I'm really ready to start, I hate standing in limbo. I don't understand why PTEC doesn't have a night class to begin with. How can you create an online class yet not offer a night class!
If I were you though, I would take the TEAS one more time and apply for the day program this fall. I would actually prefer to do the theory portion in a classroom with an instructor there to help then to do it online. But with my work schedule, I can't do that which is why I'll just wait for the next online class to be offered.
I really just wish that someone who was accepted decides to drop from the roster so I can get in this August. Knowing my luck, nobody will. The waiting is killing me. I think I might e-mail Chris and talk to her about it.
i would email chris. she is very helpful and may be able to tell you what she predicts. she may have an idea on who may or may not go thru with the program. the part that sucks is that there may be those that were accepted, but don't really want to do the job, they just want a job. ya know? or they may "think" this is what they want, but then drop after it is too late to let you enter the program.
are you like the very next one in line for the class as an alternate?
She said in her e-mail that I was the accepted as the first alternate so I'm assuming so. Now that just kills me, because why couldn't it have been a 25 student class instead of 24! And if I'm so close and yet still nobody ends up dropping and I have to wait another 6 months to start...
I know what you mean about just wanting a job. I always had no interest in health care despite my father always trying to get me to go into the field in college. I actually just finished my A.A. in Elementary Education because that's what I thought I wanted to do. But now that I've had a job in the medical field for the past 1.5 years, I know it was meant to be. I love learning about medicine and I want to be able to help people the way that my son's doctors and nurses helped him when he spent the first few weeks of his life in the NICU.
I hope someone gets accepted into another program too and chooses to go forth with that one. I'm going to email Chris tomorrow to see what my odds are and if I should start the process of applying to Erwin and possibly PHCC's night program.

I would think that there is still a great possibility that you can get into the online program. I know that the $100 deposit has to be paid by next Wednesday and I am scraping that money together and arranging to take time of off work to turn it in. I would think that there are some that will not be able to get that. It sucks though. I would think that with you being the first alternate, that next Thursday, you will get an email telling you to come in and put down your deposit!
How old is your son?
I honestly have no clue what-so-ever how many points I had, I just know that I was holding my breath on Friday morning when I opened the status application.
i agree with onefrndlyghst .... with the way the economy is today, it will be a struggle for some to get that money together by next week. i know from the few i spoke with at the orientation, money was a BIG factor since the majority there were unemployed. it may not seem like a lot of money, but i know to me $100 is a lot -- means a lot more to me now than it did a year ago anyway. every penny counts and for someone with a family to take care of, they may not have the extra money to spend. i'm sure out of the 24 accepted, there will be at least one that cannot come up with the money by the deadline. i'm staying positive for you reinvent .... i think you will be accepted soon :loveya:
I really hope so! My son is 1 1/2. Do you have any kids? Hopefully I'll meet you in August if things work out in my favor... But we'll see. Are you going to bridge to RN after? Have you already taken your pre-requisites?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed but still thinking about other options just in case it doesn't work out that way...
Did you decide if you are going to apply for the day class?
i'm not sure about the day class. i'd need to find a job asap to work evening hours at and it's really hard right now to switch jobs. i did find a nursing home that will put you thru CNA training/school and pay you a salary while attending - but of course you have to sign a contract with them. the pay is about 10/hr, plus $2-3 on top of that to work eves or mids shift. also pay more for working weekends. in the end, you could be making up to $15/hr, but not sure if i want to go that route .... i was only doing the LPN route to bridge to RN .... if i go the CNA route, i'd rather go thru ptec and get that one little extra point :thnkg:
otherwise, i'm going to give ptec one more shot in january .... also will retake the TEAS and try to get a higher score.
did you ever get with chris? she told me today there were 5 on the alternate list ..... yeah, i'm not one of them either :hdvwl:
