Well I hope one of the Americans will answer you. But I am glad to see you back after the Sars problem. I have been reading about the health care in China, They say some of the problem is that the rural health gets less funding than the cities and all I could think was - same as here in Australia - teh rural areas are not as well funded.

I am a psychiatric nurse who is working on a master's (advanced degree) to become a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. In most areas of the U.S. a nurse practitioner is able to write prescriptions for medications for her patients and can provide psychological counseling (we call it therapy). Here there are several different kinds of professionals who can provide psychological counselling: psychiatrists (who are doctors), advanced practice nurses, social workers with advanced degrees, and psychologists.

Some people are in private practice where they see patients in their own offices and work out payment arrangements with them or their insurance companies. Others work in hospitals or work for organizations that provide counselling for certain groups of people such as homeless people. They can also work in prisons, special schools, or residential treatment facilities for children.
