Hello! I'm an RN and I'm trying to develop a recreational activity program for mental health patients. I'm a new nurse and I haven't really done anything like this before.... some activities that have been proposed so far are board games, popcorn/movie night, bingo, getting a Wii system, and going to the gym to play basketball. They are not allowed to have glass or metal containers/items and excursions/field trips are unfortunately not allowed.

I know the patients on my unit love games, especially cards. They also enjoy doing puzzles, but mostly women participated--there were a couple men though, as well. Good luck!

For whatever reason the males on our unit love to do the melted bead projects. But a big one is Spades. They play a lot of Spades and poker (using puzzle peices or scrabble tiles as chips). I actually keep a deck in my locker in case they cant find the deck with all the cards.
