Can Anyone help me find some resources on psychiatric nursing? I'm considering taking a job in a psychiatric hospital, and wanted to read up on how to care for different psych patients, meds, ect.
Thanks!

http://www.psychologytoday.com/ excellent website go to the diagnosis dictionary and there's a slew of disorders you can read up on. It includes DSM criteria, s/s, causes, pharmacological treatments, and non-pharmacological treatments. For more information on the drugs, start researching the ones mentioned. Here are some of the classes of drugs you can research.
SSRI antidepressants: Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, etc
Tricyclic antidepressants: Remeron, Elavil
Antipsychotics: Haldol, thorazine
Atypical Antipsychotics: Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon
Mood stabilizers: Lithium, Depakote, Lamictal, Tegretol
Benzodiazapines: Ativan, Valium, Xanax, Librium, Serrax
MAO Inhibitors: Nardil, Marplan
I'm sure there's many excellent websites, try doing a google search until you find one you like. Good luck!
