Psychiatric nursing diploma

Hi every one, I'm happy to be in this forum. Please I need your advise. I am a new immigrant in Alberta and wanting to go in for nursing. Right now I'm confused on which program to go in for. Psychiatric diploma is 28 months while BSN is 4yrs. So I am thinking of going for Psych diploma and bridge to BSN later.

Is there jobs for Psych graduate and what is there salary like for new graduate? Is there anyone in this field? Your opinions will help.

Thanks a lot

That's still 4 years. A BSN is always general nursing.

If I were you I would go into practical nursing. Then bridge to RN. RPN-RN is probably the same length, if not, longer than bridging from lpn-rn. If you do LPN first then you can work full time while bridging to RN. Norquest has online LPN program you could do anytime. They also have a full time on campus program. If I were you I would drop out of the Psych program and do LPN. LPN programs are only 2 years.

There is no easy route in nursing. If you have this misconception, you're in for a shock. Research some of the job descriptions for RNS, LPNS and RPNS to get a feel for the expectations before you decide on a particular stream.
