PSW blues

Published

I just want to be honest and vent out my feelings.

I like working in health care. But being a PSW sometimes becomes too personal for me. It is like I feel like a slave most of the time. It is degrading. I don't like it. I wish there are other ways on how I can work on my Nursing career.

I wish there are other ways on how I can work on my Nursing career.

Are you going back to school to become a nurse?

Yes. I just need to raise money for my part time education. I am looking for full time work but my skills only fit with being a PSW/Caregiver.

I just don't think anyone is worth that kind of treatment especially in a minimum wage job.

I am not sure which province you are in, but try using CharityVillage - use the filters nursing/health/nurse and entry level you will be surprised to see they are not all PSW work.

I don't understand why they keep on saying that there is a "Nursing Shortage." There's hardly any stable hours.

I think the shortage relates more to experienced and/ or specialty nurses

In what way do you find it degrading?

Specializes in Long Term Care.

Don't say that OP. I believe you are still quite new to the job. I started as a PSW too. At first, it was hard and different from what I expected. Especially if you are the "yes sir" type. But when you get to know your clients, you will realize that they really do need help and they don't look at it 'that way' like you were saying.

I wish you the best on your career. Remember, stay motivated.
