I am currently in my first NP job. While rounding in the hospital, I was approached by a member of another company. They are offering me a job that would be better for me and my family.

If I choose to accept it, how much notice (if any) is considered protocal for an NP to give before resignation?

I would like to leave my current job gracefully.:o

Thanks, RacingNP

Hello and Welcome to allnurses.com

Good to have you with us.

Do you have a contract with this present employer? If so, does it address resignation and notice?

If not, I would think at least 30 days notice is adequate. Some entities will ask for more, but normally, 30 days is the norm.

Check your contract (if it exists).

Good luck with your decision(s) and with your possible new job.

No I do not have a contract. I do have a written "agreement", which they have violated many parts of.

I dread the thought of having to work for these people for 30 days after telling them I'm leaving. They are a bunch of back-stabbing, rude, immature people and they are going to make those last 30 days a living hell for me.

Thanks.

I would say the only way that you could possibly get out of this written agreement would be to contact an attorney.

Good luck with this.

I would still give 30 days. No point in spiting yourself and burning bridges. Like you said, you want to leave gracefully and mid-level provider positions really do require 30 days (at least) notice.

I totally agree with traumaRUs.
