Prospective Student at SJSU

Hey guys! I'm about to graduate from high school and officially committed to San Jose State University, but I'm a bit confused about the listed GE requirements or other classes needed.

I recently got an email saying I was eligible for the lower division Humanities Honors Program, which fulfills most of my GE requirements (apart from science and math classes). However, some GE classes, listed in the nursing roadmap, are stated to be "required" and I was wondering if my Humanities program would cover that.

An example for easier understanding: a public speaking class (COMM 20) is listed as a class for preparation of the major (but also fulfills units for GE), so would I still have to take it if I have the honor program to cover the units?

Thanks! Excited about college :)

Yup! When you sign up, you would add the lecture first (usually there's only one lecture), then it would take you to another page with all the labs listed so you can choose one, and if there's a seminar, there will be another page to add that. Adding science classes can be tricky because for some strange reason the amount of lecture seats and lab seats do not match (I found this to be the case with MICRO 20). For example the lecture has 60 seats but 55 seats in lab. Even though there is space in lecture, you need the lab in order to be enrolled, otherwise you'll be waitlisted. If this is the case, you would go to the lecture or lab portion on the first day of school and ask the teacher if you can add. Usually there will be extra space unless they are filled up by other people trying to add. If you are lucky, the teacher will give you an add code to add the class.

Hello again! Concerning AP class credits, do we need to complete the AP exam with a minimum score, or does taking the course in general fulfill the credits? I'm asking because the nursing website only has forms to submit a substitute course for the prerequisite, but none for the actual score of the AP exam

Hello!

You just need to complete the AP exam with a passing score to fulfill the credits. To substitute the prerequisite, you would send an email with proof of the score you got and the substitution form. The proof can be a screenshot of your scores in college board. For me, I sent in a screenshot of my SJSU transcript which also lists your AP credit and the score you got.
