Prospective CRNA student, would like to shadow someone in Los Angeles area

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi all!

I am an RN and it has always been my dream/life goal to be a CRNA. Everything Ive done academically and professionally has always been with the mindset that I will one day be a nurse anesthetist. Now, I'm finally reaching that most sought out for "1 year ICU experience" to qualify and apply for a CRNA program.

I would like to send my application next year to hopefully begin a program in 2016. I want to start shadowing now so that I have plenty of time to learn the real duties of a CRNA. I work at a hospital that does not hire CRNAs so I cannot shadow in my facility. I live in the Los Angeles area and have already spoken to someone from Loma Linda about shadowing, but they only allow for a one day one time shadowing deal. I would like at least 30-60 hours as that is what some schools are recommending.

So, I was just wondering if any of you out there have any idea on how I can find more opportunities to shadow. Which hospitals? Who should I speak to? Is there a CRNA event coming up where I can network and find someone? Are any of you out there willing to take me under your wing possibly :)? I live in the Los Angeles County but am willing to commute as far as Riverside, Orange County, San Gabriel Valley, etc.

Thank you so much! Any info would be much appreciated!
