Pros and cons of working in a hospital vs. doctor's office?

Hi all, I am not a nurse yet, heck I haven't even been admitted into a nursing program as of now (still keeping my fingers crossed). I am curious to know what are the pros and cons of working in a doc. office vs. a hospital? Hours, schedule, pay ect.? Why more RN's are looking at hospitals than doctor offices? Also just wondering if there are any NP's in this forum who could give me an insight of their job and what areas of practice are preferable? Thanks again!!!:nuke:

Better pay and more job opportunities. Most doctors only hire MAs and these jobs don't turn over as fast as hospital jobs. Doctors like to hire MAs because they don't pay them what they would have to pay an RN.

Office hourse will be more 9-5 four days a week, hospital will more than likely be three 12hrs. Hospital pay is more than a medical office. In my area CMAs work in doctors offices, not RNs...unless it is a specialty and then its maybe only one RN for the office with CMAs under them.

Thank you so so much. Well the reason I asked if because these direct entry programs I applied to have Family Care specialty for Nurse Practitioner, which is what I picked. Not sure about how many years of clinical experience I need to have before working for a doctor's office as a NP? I'm a full time mom with a growing family and a husband who travels a lot for work...

Maybe you could get more responses if you post your questions in the NP or APN forums.

I was just checking that out , sorry I'm new at this. Once again thanks for the fast and prompt responses :-)
