I attend the Glendale weekend program. I like it alot but it is alot of material crammed into two days. Also you need to be prepared to take your exams and pick patients for clinicals on a day that you are not in classes such as Thursdays. Ist block clinicals are in LTC. After that you do various med-surg, OB, Psych, and Peds rotations. Also starting 2nd block 1st 10-12 weeks is just class and 2nd 10 weeks is just clinical vs doing both in 1st block. Ist block instructor is awesome.

1 busy sn,

Thanks for your input! When you choose your clinicals, do you get to choose the location as well? With my situation, I live far east valley but parent's in Peoria. I could stay weekends with them for school. Do you think I could choose sites in the east valley? Thanks!

The clinical sites are all chosen by the school. You have to be there with the instructor as a class. Block 1 has LTC facilities in Glendale. Currently Block 1 is at Healthsouth Rehab for half of clinicals and Beatitudes for the other half. In the other blocks all the Med-Surg rotations are done at Banner Thunderbird, and Sun City. Psych is being done at the VA hospital. It is a drive especially when you have to be there so early. Block 1 clinicals are only half days. But everyone starts clinicals at 6:30 in the morning. After block 1 your clinicals will be 6:30-5:30 p.m. Also you have to go to your facility on Thursdays to pick your patient for your careplan. I hate the drive but I love the school and the weekend program. I attended Chandler-Gilbert initially and pulled out because I hated it and didn't learn anything. Glendale has been awesome. Most of the time we find other classmates who live close and we meet up and carpool together. It makes it easier. Also you will have the option of having a mentor. If you want one they will recruit students from the block ahead of you to mentor you. Its great to have when you have questions about the program and instructors or the coursework. I will warn you that Nursing school in general is alot of work and we soend alot of time studying. Butit is well worth it. I hope this helps :specs::specs:

Thanks so much for all of your information. Due to possible scheduling issues, this program may work best for me. What is your week like (including school)?

I had a brief conversation with hubby this weekend, man I am starting to believe that my life will be easier if I hire a live in nanny. He wants to work out of a rented office because he's not getting much done at home. Translation=good for him, but it will make it harder for me.

My week is nothing if not busy. But I am a single mother of a 5 and 7 yr old. I work part-time and have no family who lives in state and their dad really doesn't see them very often. So let that prove that although hard it can be managed. Most days I get up get my boys breakfast and drop them at school. 3 days a week I go to work right after that. I get off and pick them up from school, get their homework done, get them bathed and fed, and we spend a little time together. I usually get their clothes/lunches/backpack ready the night before so it's easier in the morning. I study at night after they go to bed. Some nights are long. I have found that it is easier to develop a schedule and stick to it. I had to become very organized and get the kids used to running on a strict schedule. If you can do that it is definately manageable and becomes like a habit.

I honestly have to applaud all of the single mothers (single dads w/custody too) that are holding it down. I know for sure that if you all can do it, I can too. I am praying for the mountains to move or to find an alt route through. So, your school time consists of choosing patient on Thursdays, and school & clinicals on Fridays and Saturdays? Do you have to be available for tests on Sundays?
