Pros/Cons of my selections

Published

My transcript finally made it without me having to test out of Critical Reading. I picked these selections, anyone have any opinions, thoughts, warnings on my placement selections? I am trying to stay on the west side.

Choice 1: Glendale CC Weekend Day

Choice 2: Glendale CC Hybrid Part-time Evening

Choice 3: Phoenix College Accelerated (Afternoons & Evenings)

Choice 4: Glendale CC 4 Semester Traditional

Choice 5: Paradise Valley Community College/John C. Lincoln 4 Semester Traditional

I don't know how you could tell the pros and cons of what your selections are. I have been trying to figure out which school to apply to as fortunately my schedule has the ability to be flexible. But when I have searched through the threads and read about everyones opinions it is hard to decipher which school is the best choice. Really I don't think there is one. Choose the schools you want to go to and work with your schedule. Then hope and pray that you'll get in soon!

All good points, I agree. Thanks for your input. I just hope that it all comes soon. I understand that the more choices that you put down, the better for you. Crossing my fingers for a quick placement.

When did you submit your application?

When did you submit your application?

October 2007. They just input my transcripts that I ordered in Oct 2007 (they did not get sent out). Two requests later (as of Jan 3, 2008), they just received said transcripts to update my profile and am now officially on the waitlist.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hate that we have to put our future in the hands of others and the mail is never a 100% reliable. I guess that is the game of life though right? Goodluck, looks like we are looking at about a 3 semester wait.

Good luck to you also!! I am hoping for a shorter than 3 semester wait. That sucks!! I can only take so many filler classes, I am done with my pre-reqs. Arrrr!! I also applied for the Banners Nursing Fellows Program. So, praying that I will be picked up with them so that I don't have that long of a wait.

Specializes in Telemetry.

I know more than a few people who've waited 3 semesters, if they just stick with the pool. I volunteer for JCL and got an affiliate slot without waiting at all. Good luck.

Yes, I have heard if you volunteer that you are more likely to get placed sooner by the hospital. Therefore I am volunteering at Banner Estrella in the Womens and Infants center. Even if I don't get placed right away, at least I will be getting some experience kind of doing what I want to do. Eventually when I do get my license I want to work in the NICU. So again, hopefully this will put me at an advantage point!! I've been on the wait list since March of last year, so this Fall will be my third semester.. ugh I hate waiting :icon_roll

Quick question. A couple of you in this thread have mentioned volunteering at the hospitals. How do you go about volunteering in a hospital? Do they post these volunteer opportunities, or?

Thanks for sharing.

I've found that most hospitals have a section for volunteering on their websites. However, I only have experience with Banner. For them, you go onto their website and go to the Careers section, from there they have a volunteer section. In that section you should find an application. Fill it out and submit it electronically. Obviously the more flexible your schedule is, the easier it is for them to place you in a position. I'm not that flexible, but they were able to place me in the Womens center on Saturday evenings. It's not the most ideal time, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Banner has some rules when it comes to volunteering... you have to be 18, you have to commit to so many hours a week, and some of the positions require you to commit to a years worth of service. After submitting the application if you meet their guidelines, they will call you in for an interview. My interview was fairly easy. I think being a nursing student kind of gives you an advantage. I start in two weeks, but i have to go through a background check, get my immunizations checked, TB Test... ya know all the basic stuff you have to go through to work in a hospital.

I hope this helps!!! Goodluck!

That's good to know. I will have to look into that for both JCL and Banner. For Banner do you get a preference for the location where you want to work?
