Pros and Cons of the DNP

Specializes in family nurse practitioner.

Hello all of my nursing friends. I am debating on obtaining my DNP. Currently working as a FNP in a holistic family practice, teaching clinical in a FNP program and will currently start teaching a FNP class on campus. The Dean of the school highly recommend I get my DNP as it can open up several doors in the academic arena. Outside of that, I personally don't see the need for me to get my DNP. For those of you who obtained a DNP. Do you regret it? Was it worth it? What benefits did you receive from completing this degree? Would you do it again?

I've looked at several programs and the most cost effective program for me is U of M Flint. looks like it runs around 18k. Any better prices out there or scholarships that I may not be aware of?

I'm all for advancing my career...I just don't want to spend a lot of time and effort on a degree if I will look back and regret it.

Thanks in advance. Any and all advise is welcome.

The University of Alabama Capstone might be cheap. They are online and classroom if you choose to do so.

I also will be interested to see what benefit current DNP holders have seen in their career, as I too, like the OP, am obtaining my DNP for the purpose of improving marketability within the academic arena.
