Pros and Cons of dialysis nursing, please.....(I am considering Davita)

I have been contacted by Davita and will interview soon for a staff nurse position. I have many years experience in nursing, in various areas, none of which include dialysis. I was hoping for some feedback on dialysis nursing and on working for Davita. I am currently employed, so do not have to make a change. Thoughts, please. thanks.:)

I think if you search Davita on here you will find the majority of the posts are negative...I will tell you my short (very) short tent in dialysis...I was interviewed, hired and started working. The DAY I started most everything I was told in the interview turned out to be not at all what was agreed upon/discussed...training was not at the facility I was hired to work but at 2 other ones - one in another state that I was expected to drive 80 miles one day for 12 weeks for and the other was at another facility about the same distance however that would be a once/month for 6 months thing. The shift was suppose to be 4 10 hours but was changed to 3 12 hours but ended up being more on the 14-16 hour side. I think the actual job itself would've been great but I was not willing nor able w/personal responsibilities, to be gone 16-18 hrs/day, I also was not willing to dedicate myself to making the job #1 which a LOT of the people who work there ended up doing either because they wanted to or had to. I would read other posts, look at glassdoor.com and other review sites and ask a TON of questions in the interview tomorrow - re: travel expectations, over time etc. The pay was hard to walk away from but time and balance was more important to me. Good luck.

Marshall1- thank you for your thoughts. I was thinking along those lines, esp. after both the hours/schedule and pay had changed from the initial phone interview to the onsite interview.

LizAnn, did you get the position? I have a telephone interview with the company next week.

Dialysis was the single worst working experience of my life. Not for me, lots love it.

I worked for DCI for 9 months.

Pros: Good hours, good pay, great benefits, retirement, could get Rx filled cheap from the company pharmacy.

Had a good boss, coworkers.

Cons:

There are always openings, read the above, and think about that.

Are you referring to acute dialysis in a hospital or acute care setting, or chronic dialysis in a clinic? I'm interviewing for a acute dialysis position. Thanks.
