Project Ideas

I am doing my capstone rotation on a transplant ICU. At the end of this rotation, I should have completed a service project that will be of benefit to the nursing staff or clients/families. This could be in the form of informational brochures, posters, resource manual etc. What are some topics that will help ICU nurses or families of ICU patients? Please, help me with some ideas. Thanks

As a liver transplant recipient of 6 years, and now a new grad RN now working in an MICU - I have to tell you this is a FANTASTIC idea. When I was waiting for a liver, we had an ICU nurse come to one of the transplant support meetings and explain what we would feel in the ICU. What are the various tubes and lines coming out of us. What the ventilator is and why you need it, central lines and the importance of not pulling on tubes or lines, what to expect when you were extubated and how it would feel. The need to remain calm and work with the nurses or you would be restrained. This presentation made a lasting impression on me and I knew exactly what to expect as a patient. I believe it cut my ICU time probably in half because I was mentally geared for what to expect and was a very cooperative patient. Yes, go for this idea for your project.......it will be greatly appreciated by your patients!
