Programs in FL and LA

I interviewed at Wolford last month and got in. The program seems pretty solid for being such a new school. The interview was pretty laid back also. There were six faculty members around a round table with me sitting at the end. They each had a sheet of paper with a summary of my gpa, gre and experience. They asked me some basic questions. Why do you want to be a CRNA, etc. After the interview we met with some current students who told us what it is really like to be a CRNA student. It was all very encouraging. The dean and teachers I met were all very nice and professional. I was mostly nervous that they would be very unorganized since they are so new, but I found the opposite to be true. They had a very concise, realistic approach. They asked me when I was at the interview which clinical site I wanted, Naples, or Tampa. They were very accomodating to my needs and the needs of my family.

I interview with Barry this past July and was accepted to start in January. Their interview process was comfortable. They had 4 people on their board, the program director, program assistant director, a didactic instructor and a current student. The put together about a 45-60 minute presentation about their program, their expectations of us, some financial aid info, statistics (i.e. how many apply vs. how many they accept), how many CRNA's are currently practicing vs. how many are expected to retire in the next 5-10 years (which was alot, the baby boomer generation). Then we took a written test and then a personal interview. The interview was laid back and consisted of "getting to know you" type questions, they looked over my application info, GRE scores, GPA, experience and asked questions pretaining to those areas. The atomosphere was great, the faculty did a good job of keeping our nerves from getting the best of us. We were also given the oppurtunity to ask the current student questions without any faculty present, which I thought was plus.

I also have two friends in the Barry program right now, they both have nothing but good things to say about the program. BTW one is a first year and the other a second year student.

Thanks for the info so far guys, I appreciate it, and congratulations on getting in! Jennifer - are you going to Wolford, or are you still waiting to hear from other schools? It seems like I hear about Barry on this board pretty often, and most people seem to have good things to say. Anyone else? Especially about USF? I know I can ask at school, and I plan on it, but I'd like to hear an unbiased opinion from someone applying or attending instead of filtered through an advisor. I never see them mentioned here - is there a reason? Thanks in advance, keep them coming!

Who's in/applying to CRNA programs in these two states? How was the process? What are your impressions of the school(s)? I live in Tampa and am considering USF, Barry, and Wolford, as well as LSU in New Orleans - we're from NO and my husband can take a transfer back there and keep his job. I'm currently a USF ABSN student, so I'm familiar with their campus and everything, and I went to LSUHSC for 2 weeks before Katrina hit so I know a little about them too. I'm trying to gather as much info as I can now, so once I graduate I can get all my ducks in a row for the schools I'll be applying to. Thanks!

I'm finishing my first year at Barry. It's the hardest thing I've ever done by a long shot, but so far it's still worth the commitment. I had six years of cardiac, med-surgical ICU, cath lab, and PACU experience before coming here, which was essential. I would be happy to provide more info if you're seriously considering Barry. Thanks gking, I would love to get more information at some point - I'm still a few (5?) years away from starting though, so right now I'm really just curious. What is CRNA school really like so far? How was your first year? I obviously expect wherever I go to be extremely challenging, but how did you manage your time? How were the classes/professors? Are they there to actually help you learn or is more about facilitating self-study? Do you have a SO or family? How neglected did they feel? Thanks so much!

I've applied to Wolford but will not hear anything until April for the October 08 class. It's such a long wait!
