In just a month I will have completed Voluntary Recovery Program. Or at least I think I will. I applied and was provisionarly accepted into the program. Even before acceptance I completed inpatient rehab. I also started random testing. 7 months later I recieved an "official" contract. Do I call and ask to be released from the program or will the BON contact me? I have had very little interaction with the board, except to provide required documentation. I dred contacting the board to ask about the end of the VRP. I am afraid that they will deny it because in the contract it states "no less than three years". Testing(the price went up again) is so expensive and I am looking forward to its end. Also I haven't practiced nursing in all of the time. Not by choice. I was unable to find employment despite what I would consider aggressive networking.
I think there is light at the end of this tunnel. I feel good and am proud that I have gotten through to this point. I am just not sure how the program officially ends. Any advise is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Congratulations on finishing-what state are you in? Did you not have to attend weekly support groups with a facilitator?
In Fl in the IPN it is manditory to have our facilitator send quarterly reports regarding our progress. She/He is the contact person and lets us know about our progress. Then there is also the case manager for IPN, she keeps tab on all of the obligations we have to fulfill. In this program you know in advance when your time is up-they start well ahead of the date preparing you to "go out on your own".
Our contracts state an actual finish date and in the last year you can petition for early release of some of the constraints.
Good Luck.

Congratulations this is a huge step! I don't know how to advise you but I will say that they usually have date triggers set up in their system that alert then when someone finishes because there is some last minute paperwork. Once again congratulations and you will have no trouble at all getting back into nursing now that you are free and clear!
Thank you for the encouragement. I continue to attend support group meetings and also my doctor has to send reports whenever requested. I had random drug testing, which involves calling a 1800 number everyday to check if I have been selected for testing.
I think this is the most anxious I have felt during the entire program. Starting the program and the months prior to entering the program was a nightmare from which I couldn't awake. But right now...not knowing how or when my release will be from the program is overwhelming. I don't know which date they use to mark the end of participation in the program. Is it the provisional admission date or the date I received my final contract, which took months and could add additional 5 or 6 months to my program end date?
One day at a time. One day at a time. Struggling with this right now. Thanks again for the encouragement. I appreciate it.

I live in Missouri and was on a 5 year program. I am in the NP program through SLU and would be sitting for the boards before my probation was up and I was afraid I would not get permission to take the test if I was still on probation.
Missouri also states that no one can be released from the program early. But about a year before my program was supposed to end, I wrote a letter to the board explaining my situation with the NP program. I had done everything in the program perfect. I asked if they would lift my probation a year early. I really wasn't holding my breath but I thought it was worth a try.
To my amazement, about a month later I got a letter from the BON stating that I had completed my program as of that date.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, I think the BON will send you notification that you are done.
