46 year old new nurse - Should I get a BSN?
I think you've be fine as it is and if you have a MS in psychology you'd be a great asset in a psych hospital, clinic or practice. You could probably be the manager of the psych floor and make lots of money. I wouldn't get a BSN and this point, tiu have plenty of education and a BSN doesn't really make a huge difference. It hasn't for me other than have hiring managers say that its good I have a BSN but haven't seen a difference in pay because of it.

Feeling lost.
Time to look for another job hun. Try looking for a day job. Try applying for med surg RN1 positions at a hospital, or try a medical practice or even Home Care. Looks like you need a change of pace. SNF can be very stressful and everyone I know that have worked in one have told me they absolutely hated it.

How Soon Can I Start Working?
Was it hard to work while in NP school? Were you full time? I have a kid and Im a single mom so I need to work full time and also go to school. Dont mind doing school part time but I need to keep food on the table and day care and pay bills so I'm really nervous about not being able to manage. I don't want to end up broke just because I'm going to school.

Doc calls nurse coworkers monkeys...
Like the pp said, its also most likely poor self esteem. I know this Doctor in my hospital that won't make eye contact when talking to you. He walks right in and he's like: can I see my patients charts? In a demanding way. But its most likely insecurity on his part. He can't probably handle having a conversation with some fine ass nurses like the ones on my floor and when he talks to his patients we can tell how uncomfortable and fake he sounds. He sort of talks to his patients the way you talk to a 4 year old when they get a boo boo. I guess a Social skills class is not included in the Medical school curriculum.

Doc calls nurse coworkers monkeys...
I wouldn't address it with them. I'd go to their supervisor and bring other people that have heard it too. And I'd let the DON know that this is going on. Any respectable facility that values their nurses will call them out on in and address the situation.

My husband doesn't want me on ALLNURSES
I think he's paranoid and needs a psychiatrist.

how would a nurse assess acute exacerbation of asthma?
Listen to breath sounds. Do they have wheezing? What triggers their asthma? Certain fragrances, pollen, certain chemicals, dust? Are they in any inhalers? For how long? How often do they use their rescue (albuterol) inhaler? If it's every few hours you know it's out of control.

What license or certificate do I need to insert and give I.V. Drugs?
RNS can insert and give IV meds. You don't need an extra certificate for that. Of course make sure you have an MD order for that.

Do you hold drunks against their will?
I'd keep him until sober and explain this very clearly to them. It's for their safety and really, you never know what can happen or what other health issue might arise and it's all on the Healthcare staff who discharges him if something goes wrong after.

Help please! Trouble finding a job, while on Seroquel!
I work in mental health and I think if you feel under control you should be fine to work. Have you tried home health? Perhaps you should work 8 hr shifts. Not all Medical offices will exploit you and maybe a different Doctors practice will work out for you. Maybe a residential treatment facility? If you can't do 12 hours I would stay outpatient. School Nurse? Seroquel and Lamictal don't concern me. I'm more concerned when I see Thorazine and Haldol along with a cocktail of anti depressants.

Need help on how to become an NP
Like I stated before and the previous poster stated as well. Most NP programs require at least a year of inpatient acute care experience. I'm planing on doing my Psych NP and have one year of child and adolescent psych experience and just got a job at an intensive psych adult unit (IPU) and will enroll in my NP to start hopefully next spring after having a year of adult psych. I want to be super comfortable and knowledgeable in what I do and I think that's the route. I'll be 33 by then and the program takes 2 years. I think I'll have many years of a productive career ahead of me and don't feel too old at all. That's like 30 years of service before I retire.

New Grad in Toronto Cannot find job
Good luck getting your US papers. Try the Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo areas in Upstate NY. They need nurses. They have plenty of new grad internships and is close enough to Ontario to not have you feeling home sick all the time.

I want to quit job without giving 2 week notice, and I am at probation period.
It always makes me mad how you can get fired during your probation for any reason without any notice but yet you have to give 2 weeks notice to the employer just to be nice even if you're on probation. I think is BS. Quit and never look back!

2 months away from my kids :(
The teenagers will be perfectly fine. The 6 year old will miss mommy for a bit but I think will also be fine. You'll be fine. Enjoy this No kid time and make the best of it!

Graduated 7 months ago FL- still no job!
Maybe try Texas. I've seen hospital posts that offer NPs a 10k sign on bonus like Houston Methodist Hospital. It's close enough to Florida. I'd have a talk with my ex if I was you. At the end of the day it's all for the betterment of your family.

New Grad in Toronto Cannot find job
Try home health? There's a home health agency in Ottawa that was ready to hire me when I was there for 6 months. I think they're called Bayshore Home health. Also try small clinics, Doctors Offices, you might have to go apply personally.

Need help on how to become an NP
There are programs that offer a fast track degree to people with degrees in other fields. To be honest. I wouldn't want to skip the early education that focuses on the basics of nursing. Patient care is a serious thing and can get scary at times. I went to a program that was trimesters and I finished my BSN in little less than 3 years. It was very intense and coul not work while doing it because everything was so fast and concentrated but I finished faster. Now I'm looking good at a NP program that you can finish in 1.5 years. Another thing to consider is that to be a ACNP you need at least 1yr acute care experience, to become a PNP you need 1 year of psych experience, to become a FNP you need a year in a nurse role be it inpatient or outpatient. Most programs do require a year experience so keep that in mind. Except for CRNA that required 2 years in ICU but that's a whole different beast.

Is heat ever applied to inflammation?
It might help wound healing by bringing in circulation and nutrient rich blood to the wound and prevent the tissue from becoming necrotic. Inflammation is not always a bad thing. That's the natural process of the body healing. And I think is part of the evaluation process because she's documenting get how the intervention of heat worked.
