  1. to me you come off as a bully, you accuse me of exaggerating something you have no knowledge about. I am a new nurse just reaching out to others.
  2. I would but again he is friendly with the manager and has worked at the hospital for 4 years. I have only been here 2 months. It may seem silly to most on here but you guys are more likely secure in your jobs. I am brand new to nursing, brand new to the U.S, far away from home and I don't know anyone here. many would never understand my life and the struggles I've been through to understand why I'm so worried of losing my job. When I first made this post I was accused of exaggerating. The person does not know the whole story but yet still basically accused me of making things out worse than they are. Of course noone on here knows whether or not this is even true but it is true to me and it is an issue that bothers me. It can play out that same way in the workplace, my manager may accuse me of exaggerating, lying or trying to start problems on the unit without any question.
  3. I like this approach better, thank you.
  4. I could do it anonymously, Im just scared he will know it is me. I dont want them to go through all the incidences because he will know it is me, it is bad but Im just scared to lose my job. If I was past the probation period I would feel ok about reporting but right now I am scared to risk it.
  5. I kinda agree the swearing may not be a big deal, I swear myself, I just have never done it in the workplace. I did respond to another post on some things I have witnessed. It is during the day shift and so far it is to patients that are not able to speak. Even as a student and when I was with my other preceptor, I have never thought to slap a patient. I didn't even know it was allowed, even for defence. I guess I will have to check my facility policy on this.
  6. No I did not question him on his behavior, honestly I do not say anything to him. He just came out and said that if he feels threatened he has the right to defend himself. I personally did not see anything wrong with what the patients did. One time I was suctioning a lady that was admitted from a long term care facility and she put her hands up to grab the suction. He slapped her and told her to put it down, I dont see what was threatening in that. Another time another elderly patient was brought in from another long term care facility with SOB and cough, this patient was not all there mentally and he had one sided weakness due to a stroke. When the patient started to cough, he pushed his head and said it pisses him off when patients cough in his direction. The incident with him digging his nails into another elderly patient was when she held on to his stethoscope and he asked her to let go, he then dug his nails into her shoulder and said when you let go, ill let go. maybe it does not matter but I brought up the amount of years he worked and him not being likeable because I feel ppl must know what is going on. I have been with him only 2 shifts and if he can do that in front of me he had to have done it infront of the other staff.
  7. I am not exaggerating, because it is something you may not have experienced does not mean it does not happen. It is easy for you to say to report and live in a cardboard box but I also have a child to think about.
  8. I am a new grad that has been working in the ER for close to 2 months. I have been assigned to a new preceptor and honestly I do not like how he treats the patients. He uses foul language in front of them and even physically assaults them (slapping and digging his nails into them) he claims it is self defense. He has worked at the hospital for almost 4 years and does not appear to be well liked by half of the staff. I want to report him but I am still in my probation period and I fear that they may terminate me if I do. I thought about reporting anonymously but I'm also scared he will put the pieces together and realize it was me! He is very friendly with the manager, it is really just sickening how he treats some patients. I feel like this is a horrible secret to keep but I feel I have to in order to keep my job
  9. For me and many others, finding a job in Ontario is TOUGH!!! I have met a few other Canadians here and many could not find jobs prior to applying to the U.S. If you are willing on relocating to another Province or to the U.S. You may have a better chance.
  10. The length of time depends on when the facility would like you to start and also on your availability. On the forms I had, it asked if I passed the NCLEX and the State I passed in. I wrote Ontario, Canada in that area. They will verify with CNO that you took and passed the NCLEX.
  11. Thank you everyone! North Dakota is definitely not like Toronto haha! But that is not important to me, my focus is taking in the experience and I am loving it!! The staff and hospital are awesome, I am so grateful for everything. Thanks again.
  12. Ontario is impossible...I feel your pain. Saskatchewan is looking for nurses and when I spoke to the recruiter about a month ago, the pay was more than Ontario. The job fair in Toronto is March 10th and 11th, the recruiter I believe will be there and they help with tuition reimbursement I believe I was told....good luck!
  13. Also I apologize for the late replies on the private messages, I did not check those in awhile and also a couple of the individuals that I did not get to reply back to...you have exceeded your messages?!?! I guess you need to delete some messages from your inbox!!!
  14. I would like to thank everyone for their responses and private messages!!!!!!!! I really appreciate it. I would like everyone to know that I accepted the EMERGENCY ROOM position in NORTH DAKOTA!!!!! I had a good cry today, I literally cried like a baby when I got the call that I got the job...nobody can understand how grateful I am. Honestly I am beyond grateful that they gave me a chance and not only that....its in the speciality I wanted to work in!!!!!! it is so unreal. Im crying while i leave this message!!!!!! Thanks again everyone!!!!!
  15. Thank you for your kind words. Some nurses are very bitter and can be brutal, unfortunately. I believe that many of these facilities are all about saving money so they would prefer a new grad or less experienced nurse when it comes down to dollars. But they don't even hire new grads, I just don't get it. HFO is such a waste of time, RNAO is a waste of time. I understand that it is my responsibility to go out and get a job but I hate that they mislead nurses, saying they are here to help but when you contact them they say they can't help you! When I ask where the opportunities are, they say there are many opportunities throughout the province *rolls eyes*. It is also unfortunate that hospitals are allowed to post these fake postings. It takes time creating a new cover letter and answering these questionnaires. It is just sickening. There are REAL shortages in rural U.S. They are trying ways to keep and recruit new grads. When I spoke to the recruiter in North Dakota she couldn't believe that rural Ontario would be difficult to find a job when they have a problem in rural U.S finding staff. If given the opportunity (legally of course), I would work towards staying there if I could! I honestly would not return to Canada if possible. If they are willing on giving me a chance, I would be the most loyal nurse ever!!! I was sad at first that I have to go to a different country just for work but there is absolutely no point staying here. Being in a clinic does not increase my chances of working in a hospital, it counts for nothing here. I would suggest with your experience to go to the U.S. The hiring system here is so messed up. Goodluck to you.
