  1. Caring

I guess my point was mostly with that fact that I work in an area that's stressful and a lot of times we get no breaks and late lunches (we do procedures). If I want to walk to the cafeteria to get my lunch with my head down, decompressing or replyin...
  2. Caring

Our hospital has recently started the ICARE program. This teaches us all how to interact with people aka scripting. We have to answer the phones and interact the proper way, sticking to the scripts while people secretly monitor us. We will get "dinge...
  3. "Floating"

I started my nursing career four years ago in orthopedics with a little med surg thrown in. After a year of that I went to an endoscopy clinic while working ot on the ortho floor. Well last night they pulled me to another floor and I was horrified. T...
  4. Job frustration

Thank you. Everytime he wants to end an argument during meetings he brings up doing what's best for the patient. It makes me so mad because I do care about the patients and its insulting to imply otherwise. I don't believe that it is wrong to fight f...
  5. Job frustration

I have been a RN for three years and currently work for a clinic that sees inpatients as well. Until recently, I loved this job. Loved it. Recently an efficency company came in and deemed us horribley overstaffed. The hospital cut nurses week gifts...
  6. Pain meds

Honestly since I work in endoscopy now we see pancreatitis patients all the time and even when I had them on the floor they never had PCAS.
  7. Pain meds

A friend of mine emailed me to ask a question. Her husband is in the hospital with pancreatitis. His pain meds make him nauseous so he is ordered zofran every four hours and dilaudid every two hours. She says that he rang for the nurse and asked for ...
  8. Acls and pals course

Never done it online, our hospital offers these certifications taught by our docs and nurses. I don't think I would have learned as much if I hadn't been to a class but that's just me.
  9. How long did it take you to get your first RN job?

I work in Danville pa. It is a level one trauma center and it continues to purchase other hospitals left and right. It is rural but compared to classmates that got hired in a more urban area this hospital offered about 12,000 a year more.
  10. Textbooks keep/rent?

I bought all my texts except maternity because we had to use them throughout the four years. I would def buy them and keep the main ones. As for when I was done with school, I got rid of all of them. Every floor has had any references I would need.
  11. I Hope No One Hires You

Maybe implement a job shadow to be sure people know what they are getting into? Unfortunately maybe they just wanted the experience.
  12. I Hope No One Hires You

Did you ever think that maybe there is a reason? Yes there are some bad apples but maybe it is a terrible place to work? I left a floor with terrible turnover for "greener pastures" after 10 months because it was miserable. There was never enough sta...
  13. Weight loss in Nursing

I have had no luck with diets. I tended to lose 10 lbs and then would stop. I had no will power at all and working nights just packed the weight on. In January I saw the gi/nutrition doc and she figured out how many calories I burn a day and how many...
  14. Wrist tattoo in Nursing

In my department and my old floor. I don't have to cover any of my tattoos unless they are offensive. It's not a big deal there but it's kind of annoying having people ask you about them all the time or show you their tattoos.
  15. How long did it take you to get your first RN job?

I am in pa, I got my job 3 months before graduation. The hospital here has also hired grads 6 months before graduation.
