Been in the medical field for about 10 years - first MA, then EMT, CNA, RN and am still premed. I've worked clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, spinal cord rehab, LTC, and every possible floor in an acute care setting. I favor ICU. Educationally, while I have been around the block, I have three associate degrees, am 20 credits shy of my BSN, and have under a year left of a double bachelors in biochem/molecular bio. After much thought, I am planning to finish a BSN next year and continue toward medical school from there.

To me, this attitude ranks up there with, "Well, if one has a certain hair color, they must not have a thought in their head!" I hum subconsciously a lot of the time, and I don't have any issues with...
I'd keep applying places while you have your current job. For some reason it seems easier to get hired if you're already employed. Also, I'd suggest that if patients yell at you and call you names,...
I'm going to be defensive here as well. I have been a CNA for 7 years, and have taken care of every type of patient population imaginable. I've been an agency aide for full time hours since 2009, and...
I didn't buy or rent any books in nursing school. We had to purchase ati, and each class session got notes, handouts, powerpoints, and so on. I filled in the blanks from ati, the lectures from our...
The main thing that sets surgical apart from medical, at least in my experience, is all the drains. In one hospital, I worked on an 18 bed surgical unit and normally at least half the patients had two...
I absolutely agree. My place of employment puts first and last names on badges. I covered up my last name with labels and I never give out any other identifier. I usually turn my tag around too...
How many patients do they have you taking care of by yourself? While time management skills come with experience, unfortunately we all have days where we sink more than swim. Is there a way to answer...
Size isn't necessarily an issue, depending on your level of strength. Because I'm 4'11, I have had to modify my own techniques for patient transfers. That being said, I would use a similar technique...
The Hurst book from Amazon wasn't like the review itself. There wasn't a lot of content in it, which is what the Hurst review covers - It was mostly practice questions. I'd say if content is your...

I disagree. Being an RN is not much different than being a CNA - many floors in hospitals do not utilize CNAs between the hours of 2300 and 0700, unless they are a 1:1 companion. That being said, the...
