  1. Fell asleep at private case

Do you have malpractice insurance? If not, I would seek the advice of an attorney. I realize mistakes do happen but it is best you seek legal advice ASAP because I have seen nurses reported to the board for falling asleep during the shift. Good luc...
  2. New nurse no training?

This doesn't sound safe at all. As a new nurse you need guidance.
  3. Handling resignation

    Okay. Thanks for your reply!
  4. anxiety about an occurance report

One thing I found that helped when I did med/surg is having all my patient charts with me when I got report at the start of shift and reviewing them. Yes, it may take more time but I was able to ask questions about orders if need be before the other ...

This is my opinion and experience though. We all have different opinions! 👍
  6. Should I call off?

For heaven's sake, a doctor's office is for sick people. Sometimes management WILL hold call outs against you. Anytime I have called out due to being ill, I went to the doctor. I have never had management hold my call outs against me due to always ha...
  7. Should I call off?

If it was me and I was having your symptoms, I would go ahead and call out now. Just call, don't give a long explanation, just say you're calling out for your shift bc you're sick and be done with it. 😊👍
  8. Should I call off?

If you are sick, call out and get an excuse note from your doctor. There is no need to feel bad. You need to take care of yourself.
  9. Not treated fairly

I would see what happens with HR. I'm so sorry this has happened
  10. Being let go during orientation in ICU

I'm so sorry this happened to you! Can you ask your manager if you could be transferred to another unit like med/surg even if it's PRN? It seems kind of silly to invest that money and not give you that option.

I would keep trying. I know that is easier said than done though. Something is bound to come up.
  12. PRN--ON CALL

The $2/hr was beeper call time and the $150 was incentive to get you to sign up
  13. PRN--ON CALL

That seems a bit odd. I had a PRN job and I could choose when I took call. I received $2p/hr for being on call during the weekend. We also received $150 for an automatic stipend, $30 per hr while with a patient, $25 per hr for driving time in additio...

I would stay for at least 12months if possible and in the meantime research other jobs.
  15. Help! registered practical nurse hiring in Canada

I am not sure how things work in Canada but could you volunteer at the hospital? People would then get to know you and you could make contacts.
  16. I have had to give report to some extremely difficult nurses before. All you can do is do your best. The thing is there are difficult coworkers everywhere. If you like this job, I would stay.
  17. New Grad Nurse -LTC Blues

I think you might consider a day shift position or try a different area in nursing before you give up on nursing all together. There are so many different options. I worked night shift right out of college. I eventually had to leave that position be...
  18. Please help! :(

Thank you. I think I will try that.
  19. Self esteem in nursing

I've been a nurse for 7 years and I still have moments where I feel insecure. I have found I thrive in environments that are not as fast paced as a hospital. You sound like a devoted nurse. I think time and experience helps. Have you thought about t...

I just would like to say thank you for this post.
  21. Please help! :(

Thank you for your replies. Yes, I do need a 2nd job due to the unsteady income with case management. When I first came to this state, I had a PRN job with a well known staffing company but was never given work and they were not happy I could only wo...
  22. Please help? Is this the norm?

I am new to case management nursing. I wanted the opinion of other nurses in case management. Please tell me if this is normal. I work for an agency that staffs in home field case managers for an insurance company. I was told when I accepted the job ...
  23. nurses that take anxiety meds

I was recently prescribed clonazepam 0.5mg @ bedtime for severe anxiety. I started it over the weekend to measure my reaction. So far I am more relaxed, have more energy, and have an easier time focusing on my work. Am I required to tell my employer?...
  24. nurses that take anxiety meds
