I frequently have dreams I am working. There will be a call bell going off, with a patient I can't find. I spend the whole night looking for the patient but can't find them, trying to answer the call light. I wake up so exhausted..Ugg.. I hope I don't have that dream tonight. Its 1AM and I have to work in the morning!

LOL...I was at Walmart last week and after working two double shifts I pretty much reacted the same way! I also never found out what a code 100 was. Gonna have to ask them next time I am shopping... Thank God I'm not the only one :)

Nobody is allowed to say the "Q" word. If they even dare to do it, I will knock 2 times on anything wood, to make the bed mojo go away! Can anyone tell me way I must do the knock?? Had a mother and sister, two aunts that are all nurses. They all knocked?

Monster rehab drinks (cranberry is my favorite), one at 7AM and one at 5 pm. I work 14.5 hour shifts on Sat an Sun every weekend.

I actually went to Tina Logan's workshop in PA. She was the best but from what I have heard she no longer is teaching I wouldnt really know who else to recommend with certainty.

Well, I can only give you my thoughts... I also came from little and worked my way up. Started as a bedmaker (not sure they even have them anymore), then a CNA , to an LPN , onto an (ASN) RN, now a (BSN) RN looking into and masters program to become an APRN. A whole lot of experience was gained along the one. The advise I can give is YES, nursing will make you angry, sorrowful, ashamed, confused and sometimes even hateful. However, it is capable of giving you the most joy, happiness, satisfaction and fill you with wonder about life and the human spirit. Some days you will be proud, and some days you will be humbled. That will depend on you. You will need a support system of good understanding friends and family. Or like me, you will hopefully, find them along your journey. If you can hear the calling you are obligated to answer...Asking these questions, in particular, has the makings of a good nurse already! God bless and Good luck

Forget the IQ! It really doesn't matter what degree you have LPN, ASN, BSN, MSN, or even a DNP. Nursing demands a lot of common sense, hard work and dedication.

Studygroup 101 sells notes for the exam of Ebay. I personally found them the most helpful. It's cheap 60 bucks for all the exams and can be downloaded right away. Please look them up on ebay

I used Chancellors study guides three times for exams. Used it for the A&P exam and Microbiology during the ASN and the community focused exam for the BSN. I passed all the exams with a B. I liked the guides and the audio CD's but they were REALLY expensive. I had an old coworker that used their guides for every exam and went to the clinical in Indiana. He had received all B's on the exams but took the CPNE three times before passing. I would recommend the guides if you have the money or buy them off eBay as used. If you don't have a ton of money to waste buy the guides only for the exams that are the most difficult. They can be purchased one at a time, thats what I did. Also buy a copy of study group 101 notes, they helped me out the most for every one of the exams. Let me know If I can help in any way. Good luck with the program!

Keep looking at the stuff and it will slowly come together. Two things you MUST know are how to set up a grid and your mnemonics. Set up a lab and fake patient in a spare area of your house and practice everyday. Incorporate your family and friends, even the family dog was used for practice at my house. Animals have higher heart rates and tend to move around a lot. If you don't have little ones they are a great way to practice getting an apical on a baby. Get Robs CPNE video and do what he says. Learn your care-plans and when you find out what hospital you will be using look up the specifics from past students. If you happen to be using SUNY Upstate university in Syracuse I can help you. Practice Practice Practice and then Practice some more, till you really can complete everything in your sleep. I wish you a ton of luck. YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Awesome work Tasha! I am currently a BSN student with Excelsior. I am taking the capstone and 2 of my last general core classes. I am expected to graduate in April/May of this year. I was an LPN for 16 years, completed my ASN with excelsior in 2010 and now the BSN. I am planning on going into an APRN program. Starting to research all the different programs. I really wish Excelsior had an Masters with and APRN program...

Sorry to say it but I really don't like any of them. The current one is best. Please don't use any of these 3, come up with something else.

For #6 I have heard it called a tree thing, green O2 thing and a nipple nut all in the same facility. Nipple nut still makes me giggle!

I can remember one evening having to give report again to (that) one in a long term care facility. I got so annoyed from her constant interruptions and little remarks about every patient. How disappointed she was because ABC nurse forgot something and why did I not know about Mr. XYZ patients last eye exam (on a stable patient without major eye issues). I just couldn't take it anymore and asked her straight out :argue: "You wanna fight about it, or take report?" She was shocked, shut up, took report and never gave me an issue again. Still was a pain to everyone else but not to me :yelclap:

There was no way to tell, what was causing the patients discomfort. Was it pain causing anxiety, or anxiety causing a pain? Most likely both were at the heart of the problem. You did the right thing and were written up by a dumb a*$ who was looking to make you life difficult.

Wow, I had no idea about the videos no longer being needed. I am currently taking nursing research and professional transitions. The next classes I was dreading because of the much heard about horrid video component. SO HAPPY :w00t:I will not have to do it. This post and Cobweb you have made my day!:thankya:

I took the regular statistics with Excelsior. The class wasn't that bad at all. The instructor understands that you are gonna be stressed out. He was very understanding and given the way the class is graded, it is almost impossible to fail it. I wish you good luck in what ever class you pick. And beware of this, learning and knowing how to apply statistics, becomes really important. Statistics comes back to haunt you in the research for nursing class.

Yes, I would still work in health care. I would open a clinic that was free, safe and compassionate health care for all that needed it. I would make sure I had enouph money for my life and my daughters life. The rest could be spent on others in need.

I'm in eastern Connecticut. Supervising 3-11 this weekend. Our facility has a generator and 3 days worth of supplies for all. My husband will be home with the 5 year old. I'm hoping for the best. Wasn't told what to do if I can't get to the facility?

Connecticut here...If you look at the hospitals web sites you would think we need a ton of nurses...Those are just open positions that are not being filled....If you have experience in acute care you can work in the hospitals here....If your a new grad you will be working in sub-acute or LTC for a while to start...There are some jobs but not many on the eastern side of the state....

I worked in a prison that didn't have air conditioning once. It was awful in the summer. I would take a huge bucket of ice and but a fan behind it, then blow the fan on whoever needed it. It wasn't fun refilling ice buckets all day but it kept the staff and some of the inmates a little cooler!
