If you are passionate about pediatrics, TAKE THE PEDS JOB! 100%. :) It's hard to get into your specialty of choice. PICU experience will set you up for anything you want to do in pediatrics in the future. Good luck!

Interesting! You never hear about it, and when he had his little "episode", I did some internet doctoring and there have been some definite cases. Crazy! Of course, he is a weird one - if a weird reaction exists he will get it.

I haven't seen much benefit for our profession. My husband uses it on a regular basis and swears by it.

So these kids were bringing their medication from home every day and simply taking it in front of the school nurse? Wow, that's risky. No wonder they aren't working for you the district anymore. There is quite the street market for those drugs!

I am in a large children's hospital, working nightshift on a general med surg floor. My ratio is 4:1... we really like 3:1, and have struggled by it 5:1. :)

Well, obviously. Zofran is much more effective drug in most every instance. I give PO phenergan quite regularly, but obviously those kids aren't the rampant vomiters who aren't keeping anything down.

Oh yes, it will help you for sure! Any kinds of hands on patient care is going to beneficial :) Pediatrics is it's own specialty, and you'll get a good orientation when you transfer... in the meantime, you'll be getting that nursing confidence built...

That is part of being PRN - you are only guaranteed your required minimum hours. For example, I am required to work 24 hours in a 6 week period. As long as I get those shifts in, everything else I work is "extra". I am not going to get extra hours...
