  1. Emotional support for a pt. who is miscarrying.

This is a tough one, normally I would offer my condolenses, but in discipline we are taught to show and communicate empathy, not sympathy. I would just offer to be there, listening and silence are very important skills. If it were me, as much as I w...
  2. Dosage Calculations Question

175 divided by 25 = 7. 7 X 25= 175. It really helps to write out each step, and then double check your answers at the end to spot any errors... :)
  3. CNA plus pre-nursing

Ah, as a Canadian I always forget about these pre-nursing courses as we do not have such a thing here... Even if you get into the program next year, you will still have your CNA and be able to work even one shift a week, which will be good experienc...
  4. Ideal response in certain situations?

Some of my ideas... There isnt really any right or wrong answer, but in discipline/communication courses you're taught how to act or communicate in various situations. You *really* will not know what to say or do until the situation happens to you......
  5. CNA plus pre-nursing

If you already got accepted into the CNA program, I would definitely take it! Are you on a waiting list for the nursing program? I would say A&P, other classes, and the CNA program is too much.. If you could I would limit yourself to A&P and ...

  7. Noob Question: HIV/AIDS and Injection Practice

I know other nursing students have asked about having to disclose that they are HIV positive, etc, and the answers have always been No. I think it would depend on the country your in, your program, as well as the requirements of the facility. Not all...

  11. How much time do you *really*spend studying?

Our dosage calc is all self study, we have to purchase a book, ours is "Henke's med math," But i'm pretty sure the US uses a book called dosage calculations. Your school should have a required text, pick up that book and work through all the chapters...

  13. Not used to getting B's...

The sad thing about the internet is that there is always drama. I know it wasn't your intention, but there's always someone who's going to misinterpret your use of words, not see your POV, whatever. Have you ever seen the Breakfast Club? In a nutshe...
  14. Not used to getting B's...

I agree with this.... I know there are some students that, however hard they might try, they cannot understand information, freeze at tests, etc etc, and end up with C's or failing marks even though they ARE trying. I took the CNA program with a girl...
  15. Which pre-nursing classes did you find the most useful?

I'm going along with the others and say A&P... I know a lot of people who took it even just the year before nursing school, and struggled with their programs because they basically had to re-learn A&P. You may also want to check with your sch...
  16. Not used to getting B's...

My first week of nursing school I was starting to feel sick, and I ended up taking some Neo-citrin, thinking Ok, i'm going to nip this in the bud and not get sick!! Wrong-o. I was vomitting all night and ended up going to school the next morning. If ...
  17. Need Motivation!

I sure do :) But it really all depends on what works for you... Exercise is a GREAT stress reliever. Our teachers told us to expect to lose muscle and bone mass over our duration of time of being a student, because we will be sitting in desks all day...
  18. How much time do you *really*spend studying?

I am in an accelerated program, 5 classes a term, 4 terms in a normal year. I fully understand the material and I still study because replicating the information is going to cram it into your brain. You can't expect to do 12 pages of self learn med t...

  22. How much time do you *really*spend studying?

Are you in nursing school? We have been told various times throughout the program that nursing is not like highschool, it's not one of those things you can study the night before a test and expect a good grade. You have to fully comprehend the materi...

I remember reading, that if you are typically a A student, during highschool or other classes, you will most likely be a B nursing student. B, a C student, and so forth. The tests are all multiple choice, but as good as that may be at times, they can...
  24. Dosage calc: sample times?

Hi all, I am working through my med math book and am wondering if sample times will be asked on a dosage calc test. In my book, for example, for the self tests it asks to give sample times when writing out the abbreviations, i.e. q2h = 12 times in on...
