I found it offensive, but laughed! Beautiful country down there! Up north here, our govts are cutting spending on Nurses and equipment but the boss CEO's are their annual raises. Why because they are on contract, not unions. As for moving in new direction, highly unlikely. Nursing has not changed except for the technology.

yes, there will be. and jobs? LT, why? Guess! There is a glut of old people that are dieing very slow, and this takes up bed space. But needs nurses. Old People. There is great movement amongst us, because some hosptials have poor management skills. The dollar is talking loud and dirty. Your job is not secure.

despite what the book and managmeent dictates, VISIT a psych unit. Normally, its causual. With a name tag suitably hung in a prominent place.

each hospital intake is different, or is it! List only the problems patient is having.

personal experience has talk me, that a lot of human handling of a preme helps. My daughter was in Neonatal for a few weeks plus a few premature, because she contracted during womb time, a rare bowel disease. She had a dead spot in her bowel. After it was fixed, the nurses, & us handled her a lot. Cuddling, talking to her, carrying her around. The human touch does it! She healed well. And is not 25 and typical mouthy adult child. Do expect your kid to carry on with what a military mom does.

before your ego get the best of you, you have to earn your stripes. You will have to develop a TOUGH skin in this day and age. Never get emotionally involved with a patient problems You dont know their background.

I agree with CSAR! Stop giving false hope! Nurses like doctors are their own worst enemy. NeverBthesame, good! The word Bully is the buzzword of the moment.

dont take much to get people upset these days, and HOW sensitive grownups are these days. Children in an adult body! You called the shots, of a drug admin error, and the other nurse got off. Ask your super for change of unit, or another job. Your so called colleagues, despite track and so called trending. If you get bothered, what do you think you should do.

We are having more off shore immigrants coming to work in North America, nothing has changed in over a 100 years, except when desperate, we call out foul in form of racial, sexual, or anything else you can through out.

changes are usually in concern with management, thats why Unions step in. Some management are hard to deal with, especailly with the young middle to upper managers who have risen to their level of incompetance, and decide they are in control. Unions are good, but looking at the large scale, have outlived their usefulness and over priced their members (ie UAW, CAW).

I dont totally agree, I agree! I psych'd nurse for 25 years, loved it. I did battle with admin, doctors with ego problems, but in the end, I gained their respect since I did my research and stood my ground. We worked well. If you cant find work here in North America or non hospital jobs..go off shore.

many nurses here are looking for jobs because of lay offs due to budget restraints. Our govt are feeling the pitch after years of frivolous spending. I have told many young nurses to look out of province. You have to go where the jobs are. Many do not think that far to forensic.

with or without a union,,,work to rule! do only what your job spec is. Unions are good to a degree! Thats how the auto industry destroyed north american jobs. Otherwise, you will get privates in who have no idea what the hell they are doing. MOney is the name of the game. Care takes seconds. You can only do so much.

why does everyone compare reality to fictional shows as Law & Order. Its TV. Those are big words..must be big egos out there. Forensic science is good, but like most, hang your ego at the door. As long as everyone works togehter, and tells the patient they are full of ****, when need to be, it will work.

agreed! if your so called wow...dont know why you need a wow! just do your job! Those comments are needed during your so called yearly assessment, if you been a good nurse.

****..talk about ego's. Your not there for entertainment, or to demonstrated your lack of vocabulary, your there to show your confidence. If your co-worker is there and tells the patient you did the same procedure without a hitch yesterday or whenever. You dont see doctors trying to WOW, or AMAZE, or AWESOME a patient. Leave those overworked adjectives to the internet mentality. Approach the patient with calm.

ego. in todays age of so called progressive thinking, we are still the master/servant. Unless you are good working relationship with the doctor, and contribute ideas he can work with...well, think ahead. Dont be so female, start developing a thick skin. The doctor is the one, and something tells me I wrote this a few post back. His ass is on the line. To spell is out: his signature.

nothing has changed, nothing will. For all the BS marketing about health care coming into the 21st century, the relationship between dr & nurse has not and will not change. Dr are self employed and employed by the hospital, They paid for the privilege to practise at that hospital. If you approach with out a whinny attitude and mother superior ideas, you will get along fine. Remember their butt is on the line when they sign a patient for a procedure or drugs.

it will not stop, its been around since the dawn of time. I confronted mine, he backed off. Consider bullying a learned behavior. They have to learn it from some one..usually dad or mom!
