psych to med surg advice
I just recently went from Psych to Med Surg in the last month. It is a challenge especially learning the equipment and getting back into the routine of thinking of the whole body and not just the psych part of it but it is doable. Good Luck you'll do great (I never worked as a CNA).

Your Opinion Please
Thanks everyone. I finally got in touch with her and it will not be a problem.

Your Opinion Please
Honest opinions please. I have a dilemma. I was just offered and accepted a position in Behavioral Health at a local hospital. However, I am also in a RN-BSN program that meets Tuesday nights (my schedule is 3p-11p). I am unable to get in touch with the DON to inform her of this conflict before my start date. Question is, Should I go ahead and take the position hoping to get a schedule that would allow me to continue attending class or wait for another opportunity? I'm conflicted.

Taking the NCLEX for the FIRST time in 2 days!! :/
It's normal to be a bit overwhelmed and nervous before NCLEX. I was required by my program to complete Kaplan and throughout the question trainers and qbank, I like you made scores ranging from 40-80 and was worried out of my mind. Took NCLEX after having to be convinced for days that I was ready and not to reschedule and passed the first time. Just remain confident in what you know. You will do GREAT!

Math on NCLEX-RN
You should be fine. I had 3 math questions but generally all math uses the same formulas that you probably learned just remember to set the problem up correctly. Good Luck. Relax. Don't defeat yourself.

How are pitocin orders written at your facility?
I'm a still currently a student but I am precepting on a labor and delivery unit. The pitocin orders are to begin at 1mu and increase by 2mu every thirty minutes until contractions about 2-3 minutes apart. There is more autonomy in stopping and decreasing the pitocin (just document) and an order is required greater than 20mu.

Anyone made it through Nsg school WITHOUT caffeine , Adderall, or Red Bull??
I have made it through. Pinning is in 27 days and graduation in 29 and I have not used coffee, red bull, nothing to make it through my program and I still work my full time job. Although I know people (quite a few in my program) who do there isn't anything wrong with it. Congrats to you and everyone else.

Should new grads always start on a med/surg floor?
Congratulations, I am also on schedule to graduate in May. In a class that I had today, we were told that everyone should work Psych before working Med-Surg or any other specialty so I guess it is personal preference. If Psych is what you want go for it. Good Luck

How many of your schools require a pharmacology class?
I'm in an ASN program and we do not have a separate Pharm class but it is integrated into every class and clinical every semester. Knowing our medications, class, mechanism of action, adverse reactions, and contraindications are a required part of our clinical prep the night before. We are also quizzed prior to passing medications for each patient on the medication.

need some advises....
Call the school and ask. They can tell you exactly what it means before you send in your money if you're concerned aand trying to figure out what to do.

UGH!!!!! V ent: Finding charts
I'm not sure of your other options but with us, we also have access to the computer system and can look at the patient information on the computer rather than the paper chart while waiting. If you don't personally have access, there may be a nurse or secretary (I've run into some) that will log you on for that purpose as long as you have your school ID.

Mercy School Of Nursing, NC- Anyone have some answers?
I live in Charlotte, do not attend Mercy but I did apply and decided on another school. They offer a Diploma not a ASN or BSN which may be cause for the low tuition. When I applied, a little over a year ago, you needed to be listed as a CNA but didn't actually have to have worked as a CNA. Go to the website that you have posted and on the right click on Nursing program and it should answer more of your questions. CMC does have Carolinas College of Health Sciences that offers an ADN program if that is what you are looking for. As for Charlotte, it is a nice city. Lots to do Uptown but let's face it during nursing school you may not be participating in all the night life. Good Luck!

Working while in nursing school
I am currently in school and working full-time. It is possible but very very tiring. It's like working 2 full-time jobs. Good Luck!

Finished my first week, took my first exam, got an 80, how bad is that??
An 80 isn't bad at all. Usually the first test, especially nursing tests, you are learning the format of the questions and what the teacher expects you to pick up from lectures and texbook information. For me it has only gotten easier. Don't get bogged down in too many books. Review your notes from lecture and cross reference with the text and maybe one review book but that should be it. It helps to prepare you for those NCLex questions. Good Luck!

International Edition textbooks
I would go for it. My only issue would be that a lot of my NS classes require the use of the access codes and CD's, but if you aren't going to need it have at it I bought my Abnormal Psychology textbook international this semester brand new the listing said it was soft cover but it came hard cover.

First Day Spring 2010
My first day of second semester begins Tuesday the 12th. Talk about jumping in; class begins at 0830 our first quiz that counts for 5% of our grade is at 0900. Hoping I'm ready.

Test Reviews. Does your progam do them?
We are returned our tests when we receive our grade to ask basic questions and challenge any answers. If we want to review any further, we need to make an appointment with our professor or advisor to review and ask questions but cannot write anything down. It works so at least you know what you messed up on and study more in depth.

I used a Classic II SE for first semester and now that we are going into OB and Peds I bought my own Littman Cardiology III. It is double sided for peds but the peds side can also be changed ito the bell when needed. I bought it a week ago for about $100. off ebay NIB so search and you may get lucky.
