  1. I have an interview for a pharmaceutical company as a nurse consultant. From what I understand I will be on the phone the majority of the day and be responsible for documenting adverse drug reactions as well as product complaints. I have been searching these forums like crazy trying to find anyone with this experience. Has anyone ever done this before? I am coming from bedside in critical care to this, because I need a change and I am frankly burnt out.....pros/cons of this new field. Thanks in advance!:)
  2. I am going to be a new grad in ICU starting in July and I feel the EXACT same way:eek:. I chose this area because I know I could learn so much from it but at the same time I am very nervous. I have found a couple of books on Amazon that I am going to start reading to hopefully prepare me before I begin, at least a little. Maybe you might find these useful as well, I have heard great things about them! 1. Hemodynamic monitoring made incredibly visual 2. Critical Care Nursing Secrets, 2e
  3. I really like the "unded and unwed" series by Mary Janice Davidson, they were a lot of fun!!:) "Betsy Taylor turns 30, gets laid off, is killed by an SUV and wakes up dead all in the same week. The vampire community is convinced she's their prophesied Queen. But she's not having any of it--she's got shoes to buy! And now the undead world is being turned upside-down by a Bela Lugosi throwback and her subjects expect her to take care of it! Why didn't she read the handbook? But her would-be consort, Eric Sinclair, is (annoyingly) ever-present. If only he wasn't so tall, dark, gorgeous...and undead". http://maryjanicedavidson.net/the-undead-series-betsy/
  4. Congratulations!! :hpygrp:
  5. no, you don't have to be admitted into a nursing program to get your CNA II, you just have to have your CNA I of course. Central Carolina Community College has a CNA II program through their continuing education department that is a "hybrid". That means that the majority of the course is offered online and you may only have to go to the campus once or twice during the course. Hope this helps!
  6. Hi everyone, I have my first CNA interview in the morning:) at an assisted living facility and the hiring manager stated that if I wanted the weekend shift that I would have to go to a meeting/class on Tuesdays for my CEU's. Correct me if I am wrong, but since I just received my Certification a couple of weeks ago, do I need to be taking the continuing ed already? Someone please help me to understand all of this so I know what is going on tomorrow at the interview:confused:. I don't remember our instructor ever saying anything about this, we were just told that we had to work a min. of 8 hours I believe in 2 years' time to keep our certification current. Also, how many CEU's do you need each year etc,. Thanks in advance guys,!!:)
  7. I know it is sooo aggravating deciding on schools. I have several within about and hour or so drive but with all wanting different things, I just chose to stick with 2. One is closer and more "country" which I like and I am actually attending now. The other is about a 15 min drive furthur but it has a twice a year entrace whereas the school I am attending now only has a once a year entrance. 2 is all I can manage lol:bugeyes:. So I am crossing my fingers hoping that I get into the school I am attending now for this fall or the other school spring 2011. Both also have different entrance exams which drives me crazy too. I just tried to pick the 2 schools that I know that I could finsh the pre-reqs up the fastest and that also gave me the most points to get in!
  8. I ended up with a B but I am happy with that. I took chem, soc, and mat with A & P I and I also did a semester long CNA class. All inall I was going to class 4 nights a week, 5 days a week and I have 3 children:bugeyes:. I did manage to finish out the smester with A's and B's for all classes and that was good enough for me for this semester. Next semester I can relax a little because no night classes:nuke:I was just pushing it to meet the deadline to apply and I needed that chem and mat class.
  9. I keep wondering the same thing lol! I have to cram everything in this semester in order to have any chance getting in next fall, so I am taking the CNA course which is probably the longest in the country lol ( almost a full semester 4 days a week:bluecry1:), A&P I, Algebra, Chemistry & an online sociology. I don't work right now but I do have 3 children. I have always taken a full course load and I have a pretty good GPA (A's & B's), but this semester makes me a little nervous:( Good Luck, I'm sure you will do fine with just the two!!:redbeathe

I have three kids also. I want to get into the nursing program fall 2010 so I have to knock these out this semester. Good Luck to everyone!! you're not alone:D
  11. I'm just guessing but I would think that the phlebotomy would help more. Then again I could be totally wrong lol. I wanted to take the phlebotomy myself after I finish my CNA course in hopes of getting on at a hospital. I also would like to take a couple of more certification courses because I know that hospital jobs are hard to get for CNA's especially without experience or extra qualifications.
  12. :hpygrp:congrats!!!
  13. I know what you mean lol! The school I am currently attending and trying to get in fall 2010 takes the HOBET and the other backup school that I will apply for spring 20011 takes the TEAS. I wish they all just had a universal test lol, it would make it a lot easier. We take our HOBET in march...I hope I get in next fall!! Good Luck!!:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat
  14. Hi, The program I am applying for takes your application first and then they schedule a time for you to come in and take the test.
  15. try www.betterworldbooks.com , they have really good deals and they also help raise funds for global literacy.
  16. Hi, I know that a community college near me offers a hospice home health aide certification because I was looking into it. It cost around $150 and last around 6 weeks(a couple days or nights a week) I think. I would check into a local community college if I were you, look at their continuing education section.
  17. :hpygrp:Congrats!!!!!!!!!!I'm so jealous lol!! I am finishing up my pre-req's so hopefully I will be there next fall. Good Luck!!!!
  18. I always thought these were the cutest pens... http://www.allheart.com/acc20522.html
  19. Hi, Have you checked the local community colleges? The one that I am aplplying for does not have an evening degree program but there is another close by that does have an evening/weekend program that begins every spring. The evening programs do not seem to be common, which is a bummer for people who don't have fllexible schedules. Good Luck, I hope you find one.:nuke:
  20. I have not yet worked as a CNA but I am in the process of starting my class, but I would be concerned if I saw these things. Those people do not deserve to be treated that way and the CNA responsible for that should be turned in:madface:. Like others have said, I would do it as secretly as possible so you do not create trouble for yourself, but I would not ignore this. Someone has to stand up for these people. :redbeathe
  21. Thanks so much for these notes...they are great. I start A & P this fall and I recently bought an older edition of martini's atlas of the human body to help me get a good start over the summer. My goal is to eventually teach nursing as well but I have a long way to go lol!! thanks again!:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe
  22. :ancong!: I can't wait to be there one day!!!
  23. Thanks guys for your replies. I am starting my CNA program in August and I am also checking into volunteering at the local hospital. I hope that the experience will settle me a little bit. It's nice to know that these feelings are normal. I just want to be the best nurse that I can be. thanks again guys
  24. Hi Niceema, I know where you are coming from. I am a married mother of three children ages 9 and under. I ended my first semester with a 3.1 and I thought "hey, this is great" until like you, talked to other students and noticed that their GPA's were higher, which discouraged me some. Even my own mom had a 3.8 in college:rolleyes:. Anyway my last semester I had a 3.4 becuase I told myself that I wanted to get at least a 3.5. I have always wanted to be part of Phi theta Kappa. I know a lot of people think it is a waste of time but I did so poorly in High school that today 10 years later, I want to be the best that I can. I want to try and pull it up even higher this next semester. Be proud of yourself, you work full-time, have a husband and a child, and you are a student. That's hard work! A 3.0 is great! I would not worry so much. At my school we get ranking points for GPA but the difference is only by a point or so. We get more points for taking certain college courses and the HOBET score than we do for the GPA, so I wouldn't sweat it!! Good Luck:yeah:
