I would be curious as to the rationale for such a thing....seems like a waste of time. (Like you said...the babies would be oh-so-helpful!) It is important to check and document breakdown or no...
While some of our nurses are comfortable retaping with the neobar alone...I will never attempt it. Even if the person just stands there in case you need an extra "hand" it is not worth an extubation...

This technique is used in our Peds unit but NOT in our NICU. I would argue it could be used safely on a larger person but it is not appropriate for NI.

We are bursting at the seams also! We are down 5-7 nurses on some shifts and have had to pay double time, pull from the pool, etc. Very scary stuff! I feel like I am doing DOUBLE the work when I...
I honestly would not want to use anything else. With in line suction available, you keep a "closed" system which is better for the patient and easier (IMO) for the nurses
I know sounds totally weird, right?!!? This is for tiny babies, obviously. Before intubation the clamp is slid onto the ET tube via the hole that was predrilled. (I believe, they are 99% intubated in...

It depends on how the rooms are designed. Our NI has 3 "pods" of private rooms and it works just fine. (1)Our monitors will show if another bed is alarming and you can view the alarming babies monitor...
We use Neobars and they are fantastic...but they do seem to have some "play" with the tube (ie: even with a secure tape job the tube can move slightly up or down because the plastic has a little bit...
Are you talking about the irradiance of the lights?? We typically will start out with a "white" bili light if there is no real concern but frequently utilize "blue" lights and sometimes multiple...

Welcome to all nurses! These questions have been answered many times on this forum...simply do a search. I would also suggest that you find a nurse in your area to interview for your homework.
That is a great idea! I have never heard of this practice and I will have to mention this at work! We use humidity x 2 weeks and aquaphor...same as mentioned above. Very low infection rate overall...
We just transferred a baby to U of M (Ann Arbor, MI.) for this. Why don't you contact some of the hospitals that already utilize the cooling system for information on policies, etc. ???? Does the...
Thanks for your reply. I agree with you....but the people posting how they would punish their child, etc. have children who do not do such horrible things. Clearly you are a positive role model for...

Someone correct me if I am wrong...we use the VIP Birds and I was told that they are ancient...ie: the manufacturer no longer makes them. It has been discussed that eventually we will have to change...

We use brand new tubing for each med -unless it is two meds due at same time (ex: 1300 Amp and Gent are due....Some RNs hook up Amp and run it over 5 minutes, flush then run Gent, flush and D/C...
Wow. Where to begin...... I am very sorry to hear of this very painful situation for you and your daughter. I can't imagine how difficult this must be. Now, with that said...I am SHOCKED by the...
Congrats! I am a Macomb grad who has survived her first year in nursing and lived to tell about it! LOL! Everyone learns in a different way but here is what I learned about MYSELF: For clinicals, I...
Congrats on your decision! I am assuming that you need a job first and foremost. I don't personally know of any CNA programs and I don't know your knowledge level in the medical field (medical...
I have to agree with the above poster. Just reading a few books is not going to be enough. You will have a lengthy orientation and almost have to "relearn" some aspects of nursing. (premature babies...
During nursing school I looked for the same type of program, and never found one. Instead, I got a job at a local hospital as a contingent nursing assistant. As a contingent, I could work nearly...

We DO have a blanket policy at our hospital. Resuscitate 23+ weeks...22 weeks is a loooong discussion between the Neo and parents about the 10% chance of survival and everything that this child will...
