  1. where do you want a work L & D or orthopaedics?
  2. CT-Surgery patients will be post-op CABG, Valve replacements, Heart Transplant if your hospital does it. As a ICU especially CT surgery you have to be familiar with hemodynamic monitoring from front to back need to know the hemodynamic parameters such as CVP,RAP,PA, PAWP, CO, SVR , SVRI, CI, PVR, PVRI and so on need to know what to do if something is abnormal, need to be aware of pressors from head to toe such as dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, dopamine, amiodorone, esomolol and so on. Also need to know which is compatible with what and which one needs filter, how often you changed tubing. I don't know how your facility works but, if you work in ICU you just not get only CT-Surgery patients but might get SICU or MICU patients. Assessment wise your heart needs two thing to work one is mechanical and other one is electrical. If their is mechanical problem may be due to tamponade then the patient has to go back to OR IMMEDIATELY or they may have to open the chest crack open at bedside familiar yourself your unit Heart Cart. Other thing your heart may need is a jump start from the external pacemakers. Usually a surgeon will connect a pacer wires Right one is Atrial wire with a ground wire and left one is ventricle wire with a ground wire. Make sure it is connected to pacemaker. Take one day at a time. You may have a patient with a balloon pump. Cardiac is my favorite. I hope you'll like CTICU. If in doubt Always ask questions.
  3. Level I Trauma primary care nursing Med surg 5 max ICU 2 max Oncology 4 max Multiple Myeloma 3 max Progressive Care 3-4
  4. Little Rock has couple of big hospitals feel free to check their websites. UAMS--Level 1 Trauma Center St. Vincent-- Level 2 Baptist---? VA I work i the hospital so, i don't know much about nursing homes, LTC, hospice. Most of the hospitals has some sort of residency programs and it's little competitive to get in. I am not saying you'll not get in but, they like to hire their own PCT's,CCA's or any other unlicensed personnel. Do you have any hospital experience as a unlicensed personnel?
  5. Which part of the Arkansas? North, Central, South. UAMS is Level 1 trauma center, St. Vincent is Level 2, VA, Baptist Health who does team nursing. Pay differential may be few pennies difference for new grads. You did not mention which area would you like to work LTC, hospital, nursing home, hospice, clinics and so on. Arkansas is laid back community. Definitely don't have that many hospitals than Washington. Good Luck!
  6. I need to pass this HESI Pease send me any suggestions to [email protected]
  7. Thank you, great insight i got 830 needed 900 to pass, will get 3 chances
  8. I have never thought nursing school will be this hard before i got in the program. I didn't have a single C on my transcript which nursing school gave it to me. No matter what i gone a say it may not feel good to you, Just keep on going find out what was the problems you were having and set realistic goals change the study strategy if needed. Nursing school is a full time commitment for two years but , once you are fininshed then you will look back and feel proud to yourself hope. I know it's tough you can do it.
  9. your school has a very high passing percentage our is 78%, you have to know the content of the material then try Saunder's NCLEX examination i like this book because it breaks down on each unit and sub-unit say for example you are reading about Diabetes Mellitus ater you read your book and lecture you can refer to Saunders and read their outline and practice the questions, when you practice the questions make sure you check the incorrect ones and read the rationales even you choose the correct one hope that will help you out
  10. Clean gloves are used for medical asepsis technique and Sterile gloves are used for sterile procedures
  11. Right now, most of the hospitals does not have a enough budget so, they are trying to cut back the cost by not hiring new grads it takes a lot of money for the hospitals to train a new grad so, if they have someone who has a 3-4 years of experience they will hire that person rather than a new grad, hanging their you'll find one.
  12. here in central arkansas, starting PCT is $8 an hour
  13. after a patient get discharged or deceased the medical records thin the chart that means they will keep the originall copies and shred the duplicate ones and then it goes to the machine to scan all the records and they keep the original ones forever
  14. due to the economy hospitals are trying to cut down their budgets we didn't even get our raise this year, our hospital census stays full which is a good thing but, our hospital is on hiring frozen which mean if new postion opens they will not post the job for at least 90 days unless it's a critical unit staff and the preferences of hiring is given to people who already work their as a CCA or other unlicensed positions, so, my suggestion will be try to find a job in the hospital and in the mean time you can also apply for RN postions
  15. i worked in the hospital as a pct once in a while i will get pulled to ICU unit, in reality PCT don't do a lot because a nurse has a two patients, you don't check vital signs because they are hooked up with the machine, only the thing you do is help them turn, restock the rooms, when the patient get transferred to the other unit remove the equipment, you don't do blood draws because most of them has picc or cvl, basically, you do housekeeping that's one of the reason the hire a guys in the icu for transferring a patients
  16. most of the time our hospital stays full because we are only one teaching and state hospital in the arkansas now on january 2008 we move to the new building we had to open one whole unit in the old hospital because we didn't have enough beds only time our census is low in thanksgiving and christmas
  17. thank you for sharing :yeah:conratulations you gone a be great nurse
  18. CONGRATULATIONS on your achievement, the story is great appreciation to me:nurse: thanks for sharing
  19. I will suggest to stick with the pct at floor which you are on since you are in the middle of the orientation, mani-fect you will learn more on your unit as as a tech rather than on labor and delivery because tech's on labor and delivery does not do a whole lot, and you will start your nursing school in fall so, after a year you can get transferred to labor and delivery, reason i know because i have been a pct for three years
  20. every semester is different after you passed your summer class which is nurs 1300 then you will be taking nurs1805 in fall this class lecture is 8 credit hours i think in on monday 9-12am and wednesday 9-12am and you will choose one day clinical for 8 hours you also have to go to the clinical site a day before to pick up your assignment so if you need the clinical site which is closed by your house then you have to register on time otherwise you will be spending lots of time on travelling only but, they will provide a calendar which tells you what to do.
  21. I am in the UALR accelerated program one of friend is in baptist and she doesn't like it. UALR it starts with 190 students then classes start to shrink as the year pass by. But, their main goal is to prepare for you nclex from outside most of the instructors are strict they have been their for a long time. I realize that Nursing school is totally different than any other classes you take in the college. In nursing school do not make you think that if you got an A on the first test you will gone a get an A on the next one too. Take each exam seriously each points make a huge difference there is no bonus points or so. As you progresses to semester the test questions will be getting harder and harder. When i say questions gone a be harder means it doesn't mattter how much or how long you gone a study there will be more application questions which you have to figure it out how to analyze them in most of the questions you will have a 2 answers which is right but, you have to choose the priority answer. only way you can do that is by practicing nclex questions. there are lot of students who are not a good test taker but will be a good nurse and there are some who are good in test but does not care about patients. Here are some tips 1. Do not fall behind in the class 2. Attend the class 3.Practice nclex questions 4.Do not get sick 5. Take care of yourself Good Luck
  22. i am in the ualr accelerated program right now and i am little worry about i am in mental health it seems like we gone a lose more people any suggestion please
