Let's face it; orientation makes nursing school just seem more "real" but it's also very daunting, and a lot of information to sift through. My orientation was not as bad as I had thought it was going to be, but I did sit with the thoughts of "what t...

That's one of the things I don't get about the whole thing. The whole not being able to get paid if patient is readmitted with same diagnosis. Some members of the population, like for instance the COPD patients, are very vulnerable to certain infecti...
I know this will sound like I am whining, and I guess to some extent I am, but I am so frustrated right now. We have our first clinical experience outside of campus on Friday and my clinical group is the ONLY group that has not heard anything from th...
In my nursing program we are limited to wearing Cherokee workwear brand scrubs. I have a little bit extra fluff around my middle both from having kids and some that is just fat for which I have nobody to blame but myself. Anyway, the scrub pants have...
They brought in students further in the program to give us all a pep talk and advice and recommendations on what worked for them. The tips I mentioned are the ones that were reiterated multiple times, and also ones that I have found worked for myself...

Thanks for the tip. I really needed the money though so I kind of had no choice. I figured that if I really didn't understand something I could try to google it. Congratulations on making it to the 4th semester. That is a big accomplishment in itsel...

You get both the patches and the name tags at the book store. They order the name tags and it takes about 7-10 days for those to come in. I plan on going to campus tomorrow to sell back my A&P textbook. 2 Weeks from tomorrow till orientation! Wee...

I am bilingual in English and Norwegian (which would also make me understood to Swedes and Danes), but let's face it.. I won't encounter many Scandinavians who don't already speak English. I am planning on learning Spanish. First, because I already s...
The Bible also says "Faith without action is dead" James 2:17 God is not a vending machine that one can just stick a prayer in, and receive whatever one prayed for. Heck if that were the case, I would have a big house, a fancy car and my dream job a...
Awesome advice. I find myself using the "teaching" method. My husband looks weird at me when I go spewing details on certain topics related to what I am learning in school, but it helps. My mom is a bit more receptive to letting me teach her, and I g...
I have to say I agree with you. I am a person that tends to "look at the bright side," but I am also a realist in the sense of that I know that to get anywhere one must put in the effort as well. I will provide an example. Yesterday I had my last lab...
I am not squeamish about much. I admit that the thought of poking people with needles worries me. Not because of the "heebies jeebies" but more the fact that I don't want to cause someone unnecessary pain. I think my main nemesis might be vomit. Espe...

Done with exam and home. I think I did okay. At least with this professor we get to know scores pretty fast. I hope I remembered to put all the rights and lefts lol Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in meeting prior to orientation...

Gotta make this quick since I am about to take the stupid fetal pig exam. lol I bought my shoes at the NB store. I bought all my uniform stuff, including stethoscope at the Uniform Shoppe which is on May, just south of Hefner.. they give a discount f...
I am in the same boat as you, seeing as how I start nursing school as well next month. As far as what I do to study, it's really simple. Number 1, I make sure to be in class. I take notes too, so whatever goes on the board goes in my notes. My AP pro...
I second the advice everyone gave, except for going through Red Cross. If you do go through Red Cross, make sure your school will accept that certification because I know most nursing schools/clinical sites want the AHA BLS with AED certification.
I honestly think that can vary from place to place, but if I were to guess purely based on what I personally am seeing, I would say average age of today's nursing student falls somewhere between 25 and 30 years old. I have no statistics backing that ...

Orientation is less than 3 weeks ahead. I am taking A&P2 this summer, and this upcoming week is "finals." It has helped keep me busy, but I know I am going to just be counting down days. I got my scrubs a while ago and my books too. I got a good ...

With For Profit schools, it's really a "buyer beware" situation. I refuse to believe that all the For Profit schools are bad, but still plenty enough are bad, so to give it a bad reputation in general. My advice to anyone considering a For Profit sch...

Thank you! I came over as an Au Pair, and even though that didn't work out, I managed and took a lot of odd jobs and made my own way. Gave my Grandma a hard time, and my Mom some more gray hairs, but here I am almost 10 years later married with 3 kid...
