Well they are cutting the program in Fall 2014 by 10 spots. She said the job market just wasn't there anymore for them to be accepting 50 students a semester. They also changed the points scale for admission. I decided last minute to also apply to the program in Paducah. I did all my pre-reqs there and was accepted into their program a few years ago, but 2 weeks before classes I found out I was pregnant and they advised me to wait a few years to go in. Basically (not to sound cocky) I KNOW I will be accepted at Paducah based on my points. I have no clue if I would be able to get into MCC's program. They wouldn't even give an average of what gets accepted each semester. I will not know until July if I am in at MCC. PCC sends out their letters in mid March! But, I would have to accept admission into the PCC program way before July and start the orientation process there, and I would hate to waste all that time and money getting set to go to PCC, and then get into MCC (where I would much rather go). The drive is the same either way, and I hear they are both great programs. Just not sure what to do.

Totally understandable. I do pretty good with the online classes but I was also told that it was pretty hard and that makes me nervous. I would also hate to fail when I could have maybe done fine in the traditional classes. It is only 2 years and from what I've heard, time flies! I am going to the pre admsission conference this Thursday (so excited!) and I'm hoping they will touch on the online program some just so I get a better idea of what it entails. I am a transfer student and really don't know anything about the Madisonville program. I find the info out there about it is pretty limited.

Sarah- Have you considered doing the hybrid option that pairs the online learning with in class skills/clinical? I am applying at MCC for the Fall 2014 semester and I will only be able to attend if I get into the hybrid class (I also live 1 hour away). I was told the most you are in class/clinical is 3 days a week, usually just 2 days.

Oh, and I am so glad our advisor is also the clinical instructor! She seemed really nice.

Ughh, I hated my CNA course to. I also have lab on tuesday, and lecture MW at 8:00. I am meeting WIA next week, but just on the off chance I don't qualify I went ahead and bought some of the stuff I thought I would need. I'm definately nervous but I'm so ready to start the program! I have been waiting for this for quite a while and having all my stuff and getting registered for NSG 101 made it seem way more real!! See ya January 11th!

I have decided that I HATE the muscular system! And I also hate my A&P Lab teacher. She is such an ogre. Adding to the stress is the fact that I start nursing school in January...but only if I pass A&P with a C or better. WHich wouldn't be so bad but the lab and lecture grades are averaged out into one master grade. I have a 99 in lecture but a freakin 82 in lab. 280 out of 318 A&P students failed the Histology lab test, but WE need to apply ourselves more because that test was "easy". I studied 6 hours a day for 2 weeks for that stupid test and still got a C !!!!

Rub one of those alchohol wipes under your nose to help with the smell. The sight thing just gets easier with time. Good Luck

How far into the ADN are you?

Hey DRA have you met with an advisor to schedule your classes yet? I go on the 26th and I'm trying to figure out which scedule is going to work best for me. I got my uniforms and just have to get my drug test and my documents will be ready to turn in.

Whenever I answer the phone where I work the most I can say to someone enquiring about open positions is to come apply. Our facility has that system in place for all employees so you wouldn't get far if you cold called us. I think applying in person is better. It gives them a chance to see your face and maybe talk to you a little bit.

I had my histology test yesterday and it was confusing. I went to the lab and spent hours looking at the slides and I still had trouble identifying some of them. Oh well, I know I got all the general histology q's right! LOL

If you have an iphone or itouch there is a great app called SpeedBones. It's really helpful

I have a high A average with I'm happy with. I took my 2nd Lab test yesterday over histology. 39 microscopes with different tissue slides, plus 41 general knowledge questions. UGHHHHH

For my itouch I LOVE speed bones! It's fun and it really drills in the bones for you.

We had a resident with confirmed TB and only had 3 masks that were approved for that kind of filtration. The facility actually comanded us to share the masks and to bring them out in the hallway so that we could have acsess to them! ***! I refused and it did cause a ruckous but thats better than me bringing TB home to my kids. We are always out of things, like gloves, briefs, chuck pads, Nepro, guaze, blood tester strips, gowns, wash rags (the laundry guy on midnights apparently thinks we can give bed baths without them!)... the list goes on! How are we supposed to give proper care if we don't have the tools for the job?

We have 2 outside vendors we can buy ours from. I got 2 tops, 2 pants, a labcoat, 2 penlights, bandage scissors, 3 patches, and 2 name tage for $121. Not to bad, but ughhh the all white thing doesnt look good!

A points system is a very "cut and dry" way of selecting who gets in to a particular nursing school. I was admitted based on a points system. We were ranked according to GPA, NLN or ACT test scores, 5 bonus pts if you had completed more than 12 hours of college credit, 5 more bonus pts if you are a resident in the state we applied to. Every school's minimum points will be different so I suggest you ask an advisor. My school won't admit less than 60 points. I had 93 points when I applied and was told by several nursing advisors I was definately in. Anywhere in the 90 point range at my school is great. Your school's range might be higher or lower. I really like the points system. It's more balanced in my mind because like, if your school admits based on interview and a particular canidate sucks at interview, they might not get in even though they have a 4.0 GPA. Same with essays. This ranks you soley on acedemic acheivment. Good Luck. (I know my spelling is terrible! I'm pretty tired!)

I gave myself about 4 months. Sometimes transcripts and such get "misplaced" or there's a huge fee to have them sent . You never know what could happen. If all your records are in 1 to 2 towns I'd say 3 months. Longer if they are out of state or across state. Good Luck!!

Hi Michelle. Good Luck in all your classes! I started taking pre reqs last fall and feel like I've been in school forever, but now I'm 3 months away from starting nursing school! I'm in anatomy right now. I have a lot of notes if you're interested! Congrats!!

Took me a month. It's a really hard job to get used to so just hang in there, and do your best. Anytime you are feeling inadequate next to your coworkers just remember they were new at one point to, and weren't always so fast.

LOL. I love DHC and so does my four year old!

This is so funny! I couldn't see anything over my huge belly at 9 months, but I somehow got the job done! LOL. I was having a c-section so I figured I'd do it and save the nurse some time.
