I am currently taking my CNA certification course and we have been to the nursing home 3 times so far. I'm getting worried though because everytime we change the brief and there is a #2 in it. I begin gagging from both the smell and the appearance. I really want to be a nurse some day but am worried I won't be able to get over this. Blood, guts and goo don't bother me but the brief def. does. I tried to breath through my mouth rather then my nose but that hasn't helped. Please help me get over this!

Ladii T, I don't have the answer to your question but... send me a pm and I can give you the phone number for that department. I just spoke with a woman there who was very nice. The fall schedule for all courses (including CNA) comes out Monday morning and that they fill up VERY QUICKLY. It's $900 and you can call up to register or go online. Just thought you should have this information since it's happening quickly.

That's good to know! I will have to run over there ASAP and check it out. This school counselor I have seen twice now is not very helpful.... yet everyone else at school seems to be very helpful. Thanks for the info!

I like easy stuff but I'm not big on sandwiches... I often bring fruits (strawberry's, apples, oranges) or vegies (carrots w/ ranch dressing). They even make pre-sliced apples you can buy that are individually packaged. I also buy bagged salad and just put a little each day into a tupperware container. You can add grilled chicken to it too... either gook it up a day or two before or they sell packaged of pre-cooked, presliced grilled chicken (near the salads!) If I'm running late and don't have time to make lunch I keep those 'cup of soups' handy... although they are loaded with salt! Hope this helps a litttle!

ICU123, Where are you taking you CNA course? I still have to take mine. I e-mailed and called Monmouth Votec. school for the start date and times of their course but have not recieved any information back from them yet. See you at the session tomorrow!

I applied to Brookdale and will be attending the information session this Friday (June 26th)... will either of you be there? The people in admissions stress that it strictly goes by the date of your information session and then the date of your application. Although it seems that many say if you get your pre-reqs done you move up the list... if this is true.. I only have A&P II and Micro left to take then all my prereqs are finished. I guess only time will tell.

There is not min. GPA required at brookdale from what I have read. Have you applied to the program yet? I am attending the information session on the June 26th... that's only 2 days away. I am so excited because that means you are officially on the list and the only thing you have to do is wait.

Just be careful because the LabPaqs that you have to order for these classes can cost $500 or more in addition to the cost of the class.

You have to call your school and find out if they will except credits from OCC. If they hear it is online they may automaticly tell you that it does not have a proper lab and will not be accepted. Although... OCC's online science courses have the same class #'s as their regular in class courses. Therefor when you transfer the course to your school they can't tell how you took the class and since it shows there are lab hours you usually recieve credit for the course as long as the learning objectives are equal. Thanks everyone!!! I understand now and this may be just what I am looking for. I have a full time job that pays the bills right now but I need to start putting extra money away for when I am in nursing school.. and at the same time I would love to get some expierance under my belt.

I am currently waitlisted fr nursing school so in the mean time I am trying to get a CNA position for experience. Alot of the positions list say they are per diem. I don't really under stand what exactly this means. What is per diem? I googled it... but that didn't seem to answer my question. :typing I currently work in banking and we do not have this type of position. I just want to know what this means befor I apply for any jobs. Thanks!

Hi! I can very much relate to your situation. I also went to community college for a degree but found work to be my first priority and ended up flunking out of most of my classes. I even received an acidemic suspension because my grades were so bad. So after 7 years working a job I originally thought was great... I have found that it goes no where. After deciding to become an RN I decided to head back to community college and give it another shot. The community college I was attending required a 2.7 GPA to even request admissions to the RN program... and with my previous grade history... it was going to be a long time before I could raise it that much, even if I got all A's. So after some research I found a community college that is only an hour away and has no GPA requirements for the RN program. I was able to apply for the RN program in which I am now waitlisted, any decent grades I did have where transfered as a "T" and with all the A's I got last semester... I am a 4.0 GPA student at this school! I found out this school also has a program that allows me to seamlessly enter Rutgers College BSN or MSN program if I finish the RN program with a 3.0 or higher. So that's what I am striving for.... with a little research I'm sure you can find a simialar program close to you that will really help you out of your rut. Best of luck!

How did you apply for the nurse apprentice (NAP) position? I have never seen that listed before. How was the pay?

I have been worried about how I am going to financially get through nursing school also. I'm currently working my butt of to pay down all my credit cards and such and I just managed to pay off my car loan.. So I officially own it! I'm hopeing that by the time I start the nursing program the only bills I will have are monthly homeowner related bills. I also am about to finish a medical transcriptionist course. I have a few friends who have taken this course (self paced and online, about 4 months) and were offered jobs right out of training. While I am in nursing school I plan on working only as much as I need in medical transcription... it's pretty good money and you get to do it right from home on your own time, so your not wasting time traveling and you almost can set your own hours for the most part. And lastly, I am hopeing that my boyfriend will get a job to pay the household bills. He just graduated college and is looking but the job market is pretty shook up right now. So long as he finds something we will both make it through my nursing school financials with a little help from those student loans. Best of luck to you on finding what works for you. But if you want the information on the medical transcription school let me know. It was easy because the first half was just mostly a review of my pre-reqs.

I love the flare leg with the slit. They cover a good portion of my shoes... this helps cause if pants don't I always feel like I look like I have big feet. It's not seen as unprofessional as long as they fit properly. Don't buy them if they are to baggy or to long for you.
