  1. There is no public option in the bill that was just signed. What are you talking about?
  2. I use an LED and when I check pupil response I just don't shine it straight into the eye. I use the edge of the beam or hold the light at an angle so it doesn't focus on the patients fovea centralis. If it does leave a bright spot on their retina it will be in their peripheral field where it won't bother them much.
  3. allnurses.com nurses helping nurses by telling nurses to help themselves.
  4. Then why is it OK to use google but not allnurses.com as a resource?
  5. If you're so busy, why did you take the time to write this hurtful reply? The OP isn't demanding your attention.
  6. Actually there are three institutions you need to worry about: Your school, the clinical sites, and the state BON.
  7. It means the health care system is about to gain 30 million new customers. If there wasn't a nurse shortage before, there certainly is now.
  8. The tummy ache is largely due to working so hard for FREE. It should go away after you get licensed.
  9. When I get confused I like to watch TV or take a nap. I damn sure don't want to fold towels. I may be confused but I know when I'm being taken advantage of. Honestly, though, I think the best activity for confused patients is to engage them in a conversation. Even a conversation with another confused patient can work wonders for both.
  10. I don't understand why you didn't retake A&P after you got turned down the first time. The competition isn't going to just step aside for you because you're older.
  11. The Hoyer lift, because when I use it I imagine I'm at home, in my shop, hoisting a fresh engine into my project car.
  12. I think the most objective way to choose the right school is to look at the nclex pass % over the past few years. You can see this info on your state BON website. I realize that has nothing to do with how easy the classes are but if you take responsibility for your own learning you can get a lot out of an easy class.
  13. Well PeachPie, maybe your problem is that you're just such a smokin hottie that this male nurse can't think of anything else while you're around.
  14. In your second sentence you state that most male nurses are great coworkers. So it's only the male nurses who think they're Mr. Popular that make you sick. Are you maybe that female nurse that thought you were Ms. Popular and you're feeling threatened by a new nurse with different attachments? Try not to focus so much on the popularity contest and focus more on the patients.
  15. Maybe those TVs were donated. Maybe your facility could put an ad in the paper asking for someone to donate a washing machine.
  16. In my state the rule is that a facility can hire you without certification but you must get certified within 4 months.
  17. A huge YES from me. On a related note. Does anyone know if it is true that slowly bleeding to death is painless? I've heard that the victim just falls asleep and doesn't wake up. If that is true I think it would be the way I would want to go.
  18. I feel a LOT better now. Thank you both SO MUCH.
  19. I'm just wondering how concerned I should be about a 20 year old DUI on my background report. I've already asked my school advisor and the H.R. department of one of the clinical sites and they both told me it shouldn't be a problem at all. My only real concern is with the state BON. Do any of you "know someone" who has been in my situation. I have already called the number on the BON website and the answer was "You will need to send in an application and let the board review it." Mindless Bureaucrats!. I'm not really worried that they will flat say NO, I'm still going ahead with school. But what kinds of hoops might they ask me to jump through. Could I show them my perfect credit history, the fact that I held the same job for 15 years after college, married a public school teacher... I think the tone of the woman on the phone has given me a really bad feeling about the kind of people I will have to deal with. Please share your thoughts. I've read a lot of very comforting and informative posts on this site. Thank you all.
  20. Get your books for the next quarter now. Don't bother trying to memorize things now, just read them and do questions at the end of chapters. Make notes of important terms and topics. If something doesn't make sense don't dwell on it. Make note of it and Google it later, Wikipedia's explanation might be clearer. Next quarter you won't just be cramming your short term memory from test to test. Much of the the the lesson will be well organized in your long term memory by test day. I've also found several mistakes in the books while casually reading ahead. Teacher's love it if I point out mistakes before we do those chapters in class. It saves the teacher the embarrassment of teaching the book's mistake to the class, or worse yet, using it as a test question. You have the right attitude, good luck
  21. Plan B is emergency contraception. It is Not an abortion pill. It cannot terminate a pregnancy. When you start seeing ads for plans J, K, L, or M, that's when the pro-lifers should worry.
  22. When I was in the army we wore flea collars just above our boots to repel chiggers. It worked against chiggers, and being that they are called "flea collars" it might work on fleas too. Human fleas are supposedly different from dog fleas though.
  23. 4.0 for 14 cr. hrs. Not having a job is a huge advantage!
  24. I'm trying to imagine how you explained to Grandma why she was being taken away.:chuckle
  25. Just cause, did you read my post? we seem to agree that some conditions lead to obesity. So why the name calling? When you grow up maybe you will explain to me in scientific terms how a person with a basal metabolism of 1500 cal/day could gain weight on a 1000 cal/day diet. I think that would amount to making something (stored fat) out of nothing. If you can't reply nice, don't reply. This thread is supposed to be about weightlifting, not obesity and I'm sorry it came to this. I didn't mean to offend anybody. Your ( just cause ) irrational reaction to my post tells me that it affected you personally, I a truly sorry, but read it again and then take a few deep breaths before you reply, not with a reply, but with an answer to how someone with a thyroid or other disorder can become obese on a calorie restricted diet and excercise program.
