  1. How does one get diagnosed with BiPolar?
  2. even though I wasn't a computer analyst (I was a cashier at a department store) nobody ever asked me such questions either (Imagine that). But now wherever I go, I pretty much get asked some kind of medical question and actually feel kida stupid if I can't answer it. But sometimes I wanna say, I'm a nurse, remember? Not a doctor:nurse:
  3. is it possible that since you said "yes, but later" he took it to mean that when he was done with his duties he could go? Maybe he thought everything he had to do was done and headed for the hills... (and everything that he thought was done maybe wasn't but...)
  4. I think your body will adjust somewhat, but it can take a long time. You will have to decide if it is worth it to continue or not. Otherwise, just start job-shopping. Good luck!
  5. I had one, too and I actually tore from it. it was not a pretty site at all and it did make things uncomfortable for a while and just plain...different for awhile after that. I think it was about a year or so before things felt "normal" again, but every once in a great while, it will still bother me during the act. Hopefully not TMI (Too Much Info) for anyone
  6. I have to agree, though a little hesitantly. (did I spell that right?) While it may just irritate the ever living snot out of you, if she isn't harming anyone, there isn't much you can do. However, the reason I hesitate to agree is because if she ever did come in smelling of alcohol or if you had any other proof (other than the "he said, she said stuff), I might then say something. At that point, who knows what kind of care she would be giving?
  7. I have one like this and she is so particular about everything, she will only deal with me as her nurse when absolutely necessary. She actually will call the other nurse at home. I think it is because she coddles her more than I do. I mean, i am nice to her, but I don't overly indulge her. anyway, while in clinic, she will come out of her room repeatedly to "just ask a question." and she doesn't care if we are in the middle of a conversation with another patient or anything, she just starts talking because she is the only patient in the clinic you know. Arrgh! She drives me so nuts I can hardly stand it when I see her name on the schedule. thanks for letting me vent about this one, I know it is hard to understand just how much she makes me mad without being there...
  8. we will be keeping our fingers crossed for you!:wshgrt: P.S. anyone want a laugh for the day? I have a computer at work that doesn't really keep up with the times too well and I didn't even know the smilies moved or did any action at all! this is SO much cooler to see on my home computer (I just got internet here--I am a little behind the times). Anyway, feel free to have a laugh at m expense!
  9. :balloons: How exciting! I hope one day I can post those same words on this site. I'm not even in school again yet though, so don't hold your breath! HA HA. Now you can have some quality R&R :tbsk:
  10. :yeahthat: :typing:
  11. I have one on my lower back that I guess is referred to as a 'tramp-stamp' as well, but I wanted it there so I could cover it up in my everyday clothes. The only time is shows is in a swimming suit. Our facility doesn't seem to be too strict on tat's, but then again I have a hard time finding anyone who has a visible one. We are not allowed any visible piercings except our ears.
  12. I see this is an older thread, but I just stumbled upon it. it was very well written AND a job well done!
  13. I am in total agreement with this. I haven't been able to bite the bullet and actually buy some yet, but I walked around in the store with them on for quite some time - I think the salesperson was wondering if I was ever going to take them off!! :)
  14. I personally don't like any of these types of shoes, I feel like I have a hard time actually keeping them on my feet...
  15. Have you checked out those new "Shape-Ups" from Skechers? they do make an all white pair, and I think the only logo on them is that small "S." I have tried some on and although they can look kinda geriatric, they are SO comfortable. I am not familiar with the foot problems you are describing though, so maybe they would not be right for you. Just a thought. Good luck in your search.
  16. You must be really bored! Not sure about links or anything, unless Google or any of those other search engines would bring anything up... But sometimes hospitals will have old pics up on the walls or even trying some research at a nursing school?
  17. I landed my first job out of school at a doctor's office and I am still here (9 years later). I do consider myself very lucky to have done this. For me, being a single parent, the hours couldn't get any better. It would take a lot to get me to want to quit this job. Maybe that's why it is so hard for newer nurses to get these jobs--not just because of lack of experience, but because nobody wants to quit once we are here. Pay is definitely less in clinic than other places, but for me, the hours make up for it. :)
  18. If it were me, I would wait until I get my license, too. As soon as it was in-hand, I would start calling the places you applied. Good Luck!
  19. Is it all day 8-4:30? Or do you have a big break in there somewhere? When I went, I had 2 hours in the middle of the day to do reading, etc. I worked at a retail store from 5-10pm, and did a little more reading/studying at home after that. Weekend I worked 8-10 hour days. It was hard, but it can be done. I didn't have any kids yet then, but I was expecting.
  20. Have you thought about looking on medscape.com? it is a CME website, but there is a lot to read on there... Not sure if this is the kind of answer or activity you would be looking for, but it can be useful...
  21. How long have you been at this job? Long enough to feel like you gave it a fair chance if you were to give it up now? I am a clinic nurse and have "banker's hours" but there are still nights when I go home and feel like you do--like the worry never stops. I tried LTC nursing on top of my regular job--they wanted someone from 6pm to 11:30pm so I went there after working until 5 at my regular job. Trust me, that didn't last long. I felt like a pill pusher too, and being accustomed to having actual conversations with my pts during the day made it that much harder. I wanted to be able to talk to 'Mrs. Jones' not just give her pills and leave. Plus, I felt like it took me forever to get done with a med pass. Anyway, you may want to re-evaluate if LTC is for you or not and just go from there... I know this wasn't much help, but just wanted to let you know you aren't alone.
  22. Thank you for all the suggestions. I did forget to mention that my man is out like a light minutes after he gets in bed too, and that just makes it so much worse for me--knowing that he is sleeping and I can't--no matter what. And to the person who said to sleep alone (is it Music Box in my Heart?)--you are right about that. However, ask him how he feels about that. Not good.
  23. JessicRN, I have no idea how you coped with that! I was not able to read all the posts before I posted mine. But if I would have read yours, I might not have even bothered to post! Hope things are better for you where you are now !!
  24. I don't know what is wrong with me either. I am relatively new to the insomnia thing too. I can remember a time not even a year ago when I would joke about being able to sit in bed with a Mountain Dew and still go right to sleep. Not the case for the past 3 months or so. I actually spend all day dreading nightfall, because everyone in the house is sleeping but me and I worry endlessly about not being able to sleep. it has gotten so bad that every person I see (at work, while out, etc) I look at them and think "oh that person can be having such a good time today because they can go home and sleep, and I can't." I will overanalyze every noise that occurs in the house and I will deliberately lay there awake and wait for a noise. (Even though I sleep with a fan on for white noise and earplugs). I will do this all night. I have taken the Ambien CR for quite a while now. Some nights I have been able to sleep up to 6 hours once I finally fall asleep (this takes over an hour usually). but, most nights I take it I sleep from 11pm to about 2-3 am, then I am awake again. I am depserate for some real help for this problem. Venting helps minimally, though.
  25. I know I already posted on this at least once, but I had another one a few days ago. I had a pt in for a minor procedure on her toe and all was going well, or so I thought. I don't know why I happened to look up at the pt's face, but there she was, dry-heaving. I hurried to get an emesis basin and got it there in time BUT she had been covering her mouth when the dry-heaving started and her hand was still there when I came with the pan. I'm sure you can guess what happened. Yep, vomit sprayed EVERYWHERE. Down the pt, on the floor, on the walls. And it was the WORST smelling vomit my nose has ever had the pleasure of inhaling. I don't usually get grossed out by vomit, but I started to gag and left the room in the most calm manner possible. Had to get someone else to clean it up but could still smell it all day! EW!
