  1. I love the kindle because it doesn't have the back light. Easier on my old eyes.
  2. Wetting the diaper (or a huge hospital pad) and putting that in the freezer for a while works well, too. Fewer ice cubes to chase around if it gets dropped.
  3. *I* was misinformed about what nurses do until this semester, so I'm not surprised the public is.
  4. You'd be surprised how easy it is. Perhaps 'surprised' is the wrong word.
  5. We're supposed to have lab coats in our program. Am I snotty for having one?
  6. I did great! We thought my CI lost a Tylenol 3 but she finfally found it in her pocket. I had two passes (one pt), one at 1500, one at 2000. The second one was the biggie, but it went fine. My pt was great, and didn't mind having a student which was nice. She also seemed to enjoy the company and attention. Only four of us passed meds this shift, and the other four will pass next week. After that I'm not sure how it will go. I know we can't do opioids on our own if only because we don't have access to the cabinet. Actually, my CI still doesn't have access, so we have to wait on every pass for a nurse to swipe her finger. At any rate, it went well and I totally didn't bomb.
  7. Shout wipes! I love these things so hard it's obscene. They get out ALL the stains I've used them on, including blood. A camelbak water bottle with a bite valve is my new best friend. Does. not. leak. BPA free, too. Amazon GCs are always good. Free books rock. Smartwool socks!
  8. You can feel bad but that doesn't mean you need to change your life to suit hers. I have three kids and I manage to make it work. Some of that is by swapping care with other moms locally, but we all get what we need and we're not dragging other people into it and making them accommodate us.
  9. It's also a complete sentence. "No." You don't owe an explanation unless you want to give one. "No."
  10. THANK YOU to those who wait until after T'giving. I'm having enough trouble accepting we're this far into another year without having to deal with giftmas celebrations in October.
  11. Congrats! You've come a long way already. I'm glad you stuck with it through A&P.
  12. We have mudrooms oop nort', too! I want one SO HARD.
  13. I have to choose a culture and do a poster on various topics. I chose a culture that performs procedures on young children that would be deemed illegal in the US and most Western countries. How detailed should I be in my presentation? Would you want to see images, or just read/hear descriptions of things that are, in our culture, abhorent? I want to be careful with this. It is not my goal to demonize members of this culture, but it does happen and it is not uncommon to see the results in hospitals and clinics in our area. I also don't want to go for shock value, but since my classmates could well deal with one of these patients, I also want them to fully understand what they might see, and how it happened. How can I do this in a sensitive, nonjudgemental way, given my rage at its continued practice?
  14. You just need to calculate the H20, no? It doesn't look like the Ensure matters a whit. It's simple math you should be able to do in your head if you know which numbers to use. Really!
  15. i'd do editing/writing/reporting, but i have a lech for writing. can you teach? could you do county work and do well-baby home checks? dialysis clinics? school nurse?
  16. Yep, I liked the Martini, too. S/b lots available on Amazon used.
  17. I thought I lost my Littmann so I got an Ultrascope instead. Of course I found the other one, so now I have two. I'm totes using the Ultrascope instead from now on. I can hear SO much better with it, and it's a ton lighter. Win! I got mine on sale at allheart, but I don't know how long it's discounted. Hot pink tubing ftw!
  18. I'm now qualified to pass meds. TERRIFIED. I get my pt assigned on Wednesday, shift on Thursday. Eeep!
  19. Not sure, but since I know what I did wrong, and I did everything else right, I expect to get the 100 this time. I *think* we can take it 3 times, though.
  20. Pathyphysiology is COOL and I can't believe all programs don't require it. I think I have a real leg up on the rest of my class because I took it for fun. Well, and because if I go on for the BSN, it's required so I took it when I had lots of time.
  21. Mostly because no matter who prescribed it, drew it up, put it in the cup, or mixed it, if you give it, you're responsible if the pt goes south because of the med. It's a Big Deal.
  22. Fundamentals isn't awesome, I'll say that much. I'm passing. I don't have to get a crazy high score on the fluids and electrolytes test, which is reputed to be the killer test this semester. I'm already boning up for it though. We only have four tests to base our grade on, so failing one sets you up for an uphill climb the rest of the semester. Pharm is pretty self-directed in our program, so YMMV, but it's not too hard. Do the readings, study the ppts, and apply the knowledge and it's not hard to pass all the tests, some with a pretty high grade. I don't know. It really depends on you. Good luck and congratulations!
