the internet ate my first response tp you, argh. anyway, congrats on your recovery and keep coming back! _______________________________________________________________ no it didn't...the forum is moderated in a way to ensure our flame free environme...
Congrats on your recovery Stringer. It IS scary to bare your soul on a public forum even though we can semi-hide behind our user names . At first I was scared to tell anyone, anything because I thought no one had done what I did. I didn't even get ...
Finally! I haven't been around in quite a while and was pleasantly surprised to see this new forum. I'm happy to see that All Nurses is allowing a space for those struggling with addiction and recovery to "speak". I'll post my story as soon as I fi...
That may be a bit harsh. The OP did make a mistake and needs to work on the name calling thing but that's what learning is all about. I think as seasoned professionals, we can educate and encourage her. I disagree. Half of my caseload is HIV/AID...
Agree. And even if the patient DOES like kids, they are ill and just may not be in the mood to deal with someone's little darlings at the moment. Being that it is their Dr's kids, they may feel pressure to be nice. It's not fair to put someone in ...
What does being an aide have to do with how you handled the situation? And why the nurses were not happy? Seriously , what would any other human being have done differently in your position no matter what their title? Leave the man to get beat up? ...
Management may not be there but they are only a phone call away. If one of my aides was told by a pt. to "go to sleep" and did not want to, they certainly wouldn't have to! Home health aides are not required to do something that makes them uncomfort...
I work in home health and have a pocket mask in my home care bag anyway. It's always in my trunk. I'd stop and do CPR. I think I'd do it even without the mask. I couldn't look at someone and do nothing.
I don't disagree with that at all. My ex DH had to go to jail a couple of times for DUI's. He had no say in the matter at all. I think it was a good thing that he got caught by the cops driving while impaired. Unfortunately, it still didn't chan...
Contrary to what some believe, not every addict can be "fixed" by being arrested or going to jail. I know that getting arrested did little to help my recovery. Oh it halted my addiction for a little bit but in no way did it stop the monster. What DID...

I've actually lost a LOT of weight in the past couple of years. I think it is all a matter of what you plan for your day. I bring fruit, a light yogurt smoothie, water, cut up veggies, etc. I also make sure and eat a decent breakfast before I leav...
Some of us are just natural born poppers. It's an urge, a drive, instinctual. Some could care less. And some, like yourself, are sickened by it. It's all good. There's room for all of us. I'm a popper, bring it on! Better a popper than a pooper .
I completely understand how you feel. I was in a horrendous marriage to an alcoholic for years. I tolerated a lot of broken promises and I found it hard to find compassion. That is why I speak of it now. I spent years even beating myself up for my...
thank you for the words above. especially the ones highlighted in blue. we are not bad people, we have a bad disease. yes we may have done bad things but no one is perfect. i know i wasn't even long before addiction.
It's hard at times to get the complete meaning of words across in a post! I was not intending to sound critical at all. Of course nurses in active addiction should not be working. That goes without saying but I'll say it anyway. No one in active ...
Yes it is. Addiction is a problem in society and nurses are not exempt. Unfortunately, people want to look at it as a logical problem and addiction is not a logical disease. Stealing/Diverting narcs is sick, sick behavior. No nurse WANTS to do tha...
Amen to that. People only treat us how we allow them to. Do NOT let them get away with this. You have already fulfilled your obligation. Tell them you already made holiday plans as you knew your part of the deal was done, that you hadn't been expe...
I see no one has responded to your question. Why am I not surprised? Not ONE nurse on this forum can step up and admit to bullying? It would have been interesting to hear from the "other side". I want to know exactly what the bully wants to accom...
In the hospital I used to work for, ONLY MD's were allowed to disimpact patients. So when we had an uncomfortable pt. that had not had a BM in several days and nothing else had worked, it was time to page the MD. I kind of enjoyed making that call, ...

Either you instructor is overzealous or you misunderstood. It's not BOTH handwashing and alcohol gel. Can you imagine the rate of non-compliance? We can't even get MD's to do EITHER of those things . http://www.cdc.gov/cleanhands/

First off, I'm sorry for your loss and you shouldn't be judged if you are prescribed these meds and using them appropriately. However, as a recovering addict myself, reading this thread, it doesn't seem like you are telling the entire story. Just bit...
Cattitude replied to renerian's topic in Home Health
Well proper care doesn't happen when an aide quits beacuse they learn that the pt. is HIV +. Do you have home care patients that are HIV+/AIDS? I do. At least 1/2 of my caseload is comprised of this dx. and that equals anywhere from 12-15 patients...

I know this is a zombie thread but I will say this because it's important info regarding HHA's and knowing diagnoses. Our agency prohibits telling aides the dx. of our patient. Of course you can tell them specifics for safe care such as , "support r...
