  1. Let me try to answer a few of your questions: Rent is very expensive, however it is usually provided in your contract Age : Max age is 60 however most contracts are 1-2 yrs so 58 is the magic number Taxes: You claim it as foreign income which $85,000 is tax exempt. IRS has all the info. 330 days of employment is the magic number, not in a single tax year but in 12 cons months. IRS explains well this requirement. There are a few state side based companies that contract with most major hospitals I UAE. Just google. Hope this helps. Mike
  2. I've hired a lot of RN's over the years, All I wanted was RN next to their name and some exp or willing to learn and get along.
  3. Have always given with 1% lido unless allergy.
  4. In my younger days after working 3-4 12 hr nights I'd stay up the next day, found that it was easier to get back onto a day schedule for the family. Now that i'm older, i need my sleep for a few hours. The day still seems to be a wash as I'm still tired and grumpy. If I only have a few days off, I just stay on my night schedule. I seem to function alot better.
  5. We just wipe with alcohol and allow to air dry.
  6. I've taken the old mental health day. Sometimes you just need to do what is right for you. It's an unspoken right of passage.
  7. How about $2.00 extra an hour. Really sucks doesn't it?
  8. They are equal in every hospital I've worked at.
  9. If you document that you did vital, I can only hope that you truely did!!!!
  10. I don't need to work now but choose to work at least 36 hrs a week. I love what I do.
  11. I worked at one hospital ED where we had to wear Dockers and Polo shirt. It only lasted for about a year. Pt's couldn't figure out who was who.
  12. Welcome to the real world.
  13. As a prior mgr. If your not able to cover up your tattoo while at work. You won't be hired. It's not you who determines what is offensive, it's your co-workers and future pts.
  14. Your welcome
  15. I used to love codes, however now,I've seen to many children and young adults die. Also seen way too many older adults vented and only a beating heart due to meds. Guess I'm at the point that I'd rather leave them to the young nurses.
  16. I have had 26 admited pt in the Ed. Ambulances still coming and holding for off load. Pt's continue to come thru the front door into triage. All floors can close to admission but we can't close our doors. I think it's a great idea to move admits to hallways on the floor. It will help with our back log and speed up our 12 waits in the lobby. Spread the pain all around
  17. Mudwoman, why would you advise that she try the military????? As a career Army retiree she's the last person I'd want taking care of me or one of my loved ones. It's time too try a new career field.
  18. My last job paid $10,000 bonus plus relocation for a 1 year contract. If you left prior to completion of the year all money was prorated.
  19. I usually refer to pt's as the young lady in room____ or older man, etc. it's so much easier than trying to remember 30 + pt's
  20. MOOSEMAN replied to popbob's topic in Emergency

  22. I've worked in crazy ED's and yes I am one of the nurses that always uses scripting. I apol for their wait, tell them I closing the curtain/door for their privicy, etc. I alway thank them for using our hospital for their health care needs. After you do this for years it does seem genuine. And believe it or not pt's do remember this during calls.
  23. My last ED we added 2 MD's and a Mid level. We change using LEAN. We open 2 perform care rooms, an obs area. We increased RN's by 2 and PCT by 3. We went from an average lobby wait time >6 hrs down to 2 hrs. Our left without seeing Doc dropped to less than 2 percent. Our overall pt satisfaction increased. I went from running 8 hallway beds to only the occ EMS offload. Our visits increased from 24,000 in 2002 to 51,000 last year. This is only a 21 bed ED.
  24. One the will hold my 45. Oh did I type that?
