Would be interesting to do a psych consult with her... problem is, is that she is unable to talk, she makes noises and that's about it... Not real sure how a dental exam would go....it's just really...

This resident has had a stroke, has to be fed all their meals and has a feeding tube. They open their mouth to eat, but won't to do oral cares. Wase stated today that a comment was made that their...
In the nursing home I work at as a charge nurse, we are responsible for all of the residents, taking care of any issues that may come up. I take the heat for things that get missed, or screwed up. I...
Taking an EMT course will also help with assessment skills... you can do a head to toe in no time flat! At least for a quick assessment, especially if you have a fall. And, it will also teach you how...
I work with a RN who acts as if she is better than everyone else. She told a CNA one time that it was "beneath her" to answer a call light! Sometimes we wonder why there is so much contempt between...

My negative experience with a hoyer was when the straps on the lift sheet broke and the resident came down on top of my aide. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but if the 2nd aide hadn't...
I have a male resident that had an indwelling cath due to issues of not being able to void and when he was straight cathed, he had an out of at least 900cc... As I was cleaning him off after removal...
I have an odd question! If another nurse only partially does his/her charting, ie: not finishing admission paperwork, documenting orders from MD's, leaving charting incomplete, how much of that would...

Update on nutso day! I ended up having only 4 on the floor, and did a med cart and charge myself. Was a good thing that I had to go in at 4a instead of the usual 6a, 'cause I wouldn't have gotten...
Hi... I have a question. How do other small facilities ie less than 50 residents staff the floor with CNA's and TMA's? And is the charge nurse required to cover a med cart,in addition to taking care...
One thing I think that needs changing is the amount of paperwork that we "have" to do. We chart in 3 places for medicare residents and managed care residents; when someone falls, we chart in at least...
I know this will make some people upset, but, I hate it when there are certain RNs who think they are totally better than LPNs. Yes, granted you have had more education etc... but it doesn't mean...
This is how I would understand it.... it's when a person from a pool or temp agency comes in and fills in a shift or whatever at a facility that is short staffed. They usually are very good nurses,...

Also make sure that your staff has their name tags, transfer belts, etc... on them if your facility uses that kind of thing. And make sure that they know the correct mode of transferring the resident...
One huge suggestion I have, and that will go a long way with your staff, is to say "Thank You" to those you worked with on the shift, and give that person a smile when you say it. It does mean alot!...
