Does the defecation follow a pattern, such as during recess after lunch? If so, can student try to use the bathroom after lunch and before going outside? How old is the student? Can student have an adult such as Mom flush toilet with him separately from using it to desensitise him to the sound(school toilets are likely louder than the toilet at home)?
  2. I guess I am the odd one out here, I worked night shift for 2 years starting when I was 32, still in the prime of fertility. My periods became so irregular that I had to constantly have supplies at the ready. I do think a specialist is in order if you want to get pregnant, but the stress combined with night shift can cause irregularities. See a doctor and good luck to you!
  3. Isn't there a risk of overheating and skin breakdown with 2 briefs?
  4. The verbal abuse and racial slurs are unacceptable. The staffs' response can and should be care planned, along with a contract drawn up, perhaps by a social worker. One of my instructors in school used several days of class time putting all class members into various situations that mimicked being dependent on others for care. Blindfolds for some, noise-cancelling headphones, arms and legs immobilized, etc. It was a very fruitful few days. Every one of the quadriplegic patients I have cared for have been very time-consuming, probably due to the fact that there is so little in their control.
  5. I think a product like this one would cause a classroom full of coughers. I see the benefit of home use, although if a child isn't old enough to not choke on a cough drop a sucker might not be safe either.
  6. Next up is BMI/blood glucose and cholesterol readings. Are we willing to sacrifice our protected health information to get a job? I am of normal weight, no health flags. But what is next???
  7. Prayers for your friend, for good results, and prayers for you, for peace.
  8. Viva, I am horribly allergic to lavender too. Nurses technically aren't even supposed to wear perfume, who thought up this policy to put it all over patients? Essential oils placed on skin without a carrier oil can cause skin irritation. OP, can you bring up that fact with management? I doubt a facility-aquired wound as a result of an unordered oil applied to skin would look good to your state surveyors.

I had a 7 year old boy that looked really glum, I asked him what was wrong. He responded, "I am full of winter!"
  10. The confusing part about this situation is the fact that a child can get dangerously ill very quickly, and they tank even faster. Why aren't these parents concerned that the child will develop a secondary infection like pneumonia that could kill their child? And who is so rude and entitled that they think it's okay to expose everyone else's children? School is not daycare, a child is there to learn. That is impossible if they are ill.

I just told my 10 year old your joke, and he cracked up!
  12. Me too!
  13. And yet it is almost impossible for an elderly dementia client to get help with medication management and cooking, so they end up in a nursing home, at a much higher cost. Sad.
  14. Yeahí ½í¸ it was as bad as it sounds.
  15. I second the wrap, like for sports, to keep them on your face. You do not want to lose your glasses into the soiled brief of a patient. Especially if they have C Diff. Ask me how I know this.
  16. Was this facility possibly in Westerville?
  17. Since you have a background in LTC and hospice, I suspect that you already have a pretty good toolbox to deal with problems in Geri-psych. If I were you I would just highlight your previous experience, perhaps focusing on interventions that helped your patients, such as advocating for pain relief or treating a urinary tract infection that contributed to increased symptoms of dementia. You have excellent preparation for this job, just make sure to sell yourself!
  18. Seriously, your facility refused to update your education and status? Time to enroll in a reasonable educational system.
  19. Not private duty, LTC. I was written up for feeding dementia patients during night shift. Sorry, the last time I checked, dementia patients get agitated when hunger needs aren't met promptly. Agitated residents tend to agitate other residents, and there is only one of me and 38 of them.
  20. There is a hospice/palliative care section here, it may be helpful to you. Hospice has different goals and mindset, it is a different approach. I'm wondering if some of the problem is that hospice and oncology is difficult emotionally for some people. What specific skills are you having problems with?
  21. First of all, deep breath. And again. And again. Now, doesn't that feel better? Alright. You aren't certified and are untrained, yes? So of course you will feel overwhelmed. You don't know what you don't know. During your next shift tell your trainer that you want to help and ask what to do. Watch, learn, and act. You will be fine, you just need guidance. If you need more specific help, YouTube is a good resource.
  22. If Mom's reaction was to threaten school staff there is lots more to this story. Most people don't threaten to the point of being banned from the school.
  23. Davey, I have read your posts for several years and I really can't imagine that kind of behavior from you. It does happen in some relationships though.
  24. Unfortunately if your parents to be are more interested in their IPhone than their baby, you are in for an uphill battle. Maybe you could research pregnancy apps that they can download that show baby's development, important nutritional needs for that trimester, and breastfeeding education? Many of the apps also follow the child for several years, like the "What to Expect" series of books. I would lean towards technology to fill this need, many people simply don't read unless it's on a screen.
  25. Grrr, such a frustrating situation. Yes, patients have the right to not be physically or chemically restrained, but nursing staff (should) have the right to not be physically abused also. I had a very large patient, 6'6", A&O×4, with a history of domestic violence, pick me up by my ribcage and hurl me into a wall. He laughed while he did it. I got 3 broken ribs and extreme fear from that encounter. OP, your boss is an ass, and I wouldn't have stepped foot into that room by myself either. Maybe some of the posters that advocate for caring for these patients alone can become sitters themselves.
