JUNE 2010..... INTERNATIONAL NURSES PAY ATTENTION..............YOU ARE NOT WANTED IN CANADA............I PAYED OVER 500 DOLLARS FOR NOTHING ....................HI READ ME !!!!! COMMENTS WELCOME OR ADVICE. I have been an LPN for 20 years then I went to school to be an R.N. I have had many jobs from stepdown intensive care to clinics prisons.......I want to join my husband in Alberta. We will have to remain separated..........

I wrote the exam an passed. (ALBERTA-)TEMP LIC/18 MTHS I need 225 hours......or they wont given me my licence.....so I am discouraged and thinking of going home..( ONTARIO/MICHIGAN)....only to find if I want to work in CANADA . I will after finishing school......have to write the CRNE again.. (AS TOLD BY CANADIAN NURSING BODY)...I have 14 courses to go for bach/ from ass. degree ( 3 years). I was trained in CANADA AS LPN AND the U.S.A. as R.N.-because a hospital I worked for payed for it. I also am dual.......Im not sure if its the economy or the fact that CANADIAN'S have an attitude ABOUT nurses working in the U.S.A.- its about I have to eat......I have applied to many jobs only casual........ How do I make a car payment , how do I eat etc.

Should I quit my full time job in Montana to sit my the phone?.........................THATS NOT EVEN THE ISSUE.

I have gone to many places in person...........I did not even get kiss my..... or any reply or reason. I believe they just have attitude or that there is actually no jobs. THE Canadian nursing board only lets you write three times.!!!!!!!!!...but I did pass the FIRST TIME. If I move they are going to have me write again..............IS THIS NOT A DOUBLE STANDARD......THIS INFO CAME FROM THE CANADIAN BOARD OF NURSING ITS NOT HEAR SAY. This is the organization that represents us? Do not take offense to this ...........but why does the board let more people write the test ...if there are NO JOBS....A french canadian

I have only one thing to say do not write this exam....if you are INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEONE YOU WILL NOT GET A JOB.......as a nurse.... only in a TIM hortons...........what a slap in the face ......angry !!!yes I am.....I only know if I should ever work in a u.s. facility with a Canadian I will think about how they treated there own.............I hope I am wrong and its only the economy......P.s there are two jobs private they are

full time they pay 13.00 and the other one 21.00 and thats it........... I made more as a nurses assistant.

Your post is being moved to a thread of its own because it is a bit off topic to the thread in which it was posted, Sandraann. The thread addresses jobs for practical nurses, not registration iussues. Your post is also rambling and difficult to make sense of. Perhaps part of your problem is in how you express yourself. Your post raises a number of questions. There is no "Canadian board of nursing", there are 13 Colleges of Registered Nurses/RN associations that administer the CRNE and regulate registered nurse practice in each of the provinces and territories. They define their own requirements and expectations. The Canadian Nurses Association is the national umbrella organization which acts as the glue that holds the provincial colleges together. Which nursing "board" were you referring to? You would not have been given authorization to write the CRNE if you were not eligible for registration in the province where you applied so your statements about having to do 14 courses to upgrade from ADN to BScN create some confusion. I believe you had been advised that Ontario would require a BScN for registration but that Alberta currently did not. Since you have already written and passed the CRNE I fail to understand why you would have to write it again. Being authorized to write the exam is a completely separate issue from the availablility of jobs. The Colleges are not in the job-placement business, they're in the regulation business.

As for finding work in Alberta, there has been a lot of information posted here about the employment situation in Alberta. Human resources departments are not very receptive to people walking in off the street; they prefer that the established method of application and screening be followed. Since Alberta Health Services is attempting to create a one-size-fits-all model for every aspect of the running of the health care system, the process is the process. I believe you were also informed that working outside of Alberta Health Services would not pay as well nor offer the same sorts of benefits, but I cannot imagine any position for a registered nurse anywhere in Canada paying $13 an hour.

Canadians do not have an "attitude" about people working in the US. Many, many of us have had to work in the US in the past in order to have work. Most average Canadians have never mistreated another person and would be somewhat insulted by your suggestion that they've treated you poorly without ever having met you.

Well,

I feel differently because I was there . I sent out alot of applications. I didnt even get a Thank -you for stopping in or we are not hiring....There was only one prospective employer that was professional. I DIDNT JUST WALK IN!!! I followed up on my application......So

When I showed up they were surprised because they based alot on my phone number which Im not gonna change. I was passed up.....that should have nothing to do with it.

When people are two faced yes you do get an attitude. You dont say I,ll call you in few hours and just not call them back....no more then you would promise a patient something and not show up.....THATS NOT PROFESSIONAL...AND yes THERE WAS A JOB FOR 13 DOLLARS AN HOUR ON JOB SERVICES CANADA....I WAS TOLD NOT TO APPLY FOR THE TEMP LICENCE UNTIL I get a job.....if time rolls along and I dont find a job.....I will have to start the process all over again......I think that does not make any since at all. I may not find a job for TWO YEARS......THEN WHAT START OVER....? YOU DID SAY YOURSELF WHEN YOU COULDNT FIND WORK YOU WENT TO THE U.S.A. WELL I WILL BE DOIN THE SAME......THING I AM WORKIN THERE NOW......BUT ILL HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN.. with the ( college of nurses) I asked them already....IF I DONT FIND WORK.. WHAT HAPPENS ( START OVER )..HOW STUPID IS THAT REALLY ? the whole process all over again!!!
