  1. Well, I feel differently because I was there . I sent out alot of applications. I didnt even get a Thank -you for stopping in or we are not hiring....There was only one prospective employer that was professional. I DIDNT JUST WALK IN!!! I followed up on my application......So When I showed up they were surprised because they based alot on my phone number which Im not gonna change. I was passed up.....that should have nothing to do with it. When people are two faced yes you do get an attitude. You dont say I,ll call you in few hours and just not call them back....no more then you would promise a patient something and not show up.....THATS NOT PROFESSIONAL...AND yes THERE WAS A JOB FOR 13 DOLLARS AN HOUR ON JOB SERVICES CANADA....I WAS TOLD NOT TO APPLY FOR THE TEMP LICENCE UNTIL I get a job.....if time rolls along and I dont find a job.....I will have to start the process all over again......I think that does not make any since at all. I may not find a job for TWO YEARS......THEN WHAT START OVER....? YOU DID SAY YOURSELF WHEN YOU COULDNT FIND WORK YOU WENT TO THE U.S.A. WELL I WILL BE DOIN THE SAME......THING I AM WORKIN THERE NOW......BUT ILL HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN.. with the ( college of nurses) I asked them already....IF I DONT FIND WORK.. WHAT HAPPENS ( START OVER )..HOW STUPID IS THAT REALLY ? the whole process all over again!!!
  2. JUNE 2010..... INTERNATIONAL NURSES PAY ATTENTION..............YOU ARE NOT WANTED IN CANADA............I PAYED OVER 500 DOLLARS FOR NOTHING ....................HI READ ME !!!!! COMMENTS WELCOME OR ADVICE. I have been an LPN for 20 years then I went to school to be an R.N. I have had many jobs from stepdown intensive care to clinics prisons.......I want to join my husband in Alberta. We will have to remain separated.......... I wrote the exam an passed. (ALBERTA-)TEMP LIC/18 MTHS I need 225 hours......or they wont given me my licence.....so I am discouraged and thinking of going home..( ONTARIO/MICHIGAN)....only to find if I want to work in CANADA . I will after finishing school......have to write the CRNE again.. (AS TOLD BY CANADIAN NURSING BODY)...I have 14 courses to go for bach/ from ass. degree ( 3 years). I was trained in CANADA AS LPN AND the U.S.A. as R.N.-because a hospital I worked for payed for it. I also am dual.......Im not sure if its the economy or the fact that CANADIAN'S have an attitude ABOUT nurses working in the U.S.A.- its about I have to eat......I have applied to many jobs only casual........ How do I make a car payment , how do I eat etc. Should I quit my full time job in Montana to sit my the phone?.........................THATS NOT EVEN THE ISSUE. I have gone to many places in person...........I did not even get kiss my..... or any reply or reason. I believe they just have attitude or that there is actually no jobs. THE Canadian nursing board only lets you write three times.!!!!!!!!!...but I did pass the FIRST TIME. If I move they are going to have me write again..............IS THIS NOT A DOUBLE STANDARD......THIS INFO CAME FROM THE CANADIAN BOARD OF NURSING ITS NOT HEAR SAY. This is the organization that represents us? Do not take offense to this ...........but why does the board let more people write the test ...if there are NO JOBS....A french canadian I have only one thing to say do not write this exam....if you are INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEONE YOU WILL NOT GET A JOB.......as a nurse.... only in a TIM hortons...........what a slap in the face ......angry !!!yes I am.....I only know if I should ever work in a u.s. facility with a Canadian I will think about how they treated there own.............I hope I am wrong and its only the economy......P.s there are two jobs private they are full time they pay 13.00 and the other one 21.00 and thats it........... I made more as a nurses assistant.
  3. THANK -YOU I will try this agency thing. I dont know if there is that many in Canada, Alberta because everything is different there. Its worth a try. As always, Sandra
  4. Dear jan you have written to me before. I have a few questions for you . Im wondering how to get you on this site. I dont use it alot....I would like to direct my questions to you. THANK-YOU......so much you are very helpful and kind.....
  5. TO ALL WHO FAILED .....DONT EVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAMS.....YOU ARE ABLE TO WRITE N-CLEX WITHOUT PASSED YOUR CANADIAN....BUT YOU WILL NOT FIND WORK IN THIS ECONOMY UNTIL YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK IN A VERY RURAL COMMUNITY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE....OR PERHAPS YOU WILL GET LUCKY.. and WORK in a big CITY...I can say that if you study in a group that helps The best way to pass is with experience...start volunteering and try to work in the field....MY only downfall is not starting out as a NURSE ASSISTANT......I have seen many nurse,s ask an assistant to walk down the hall (way on the other end) to get a patient a drink of water. NO job as a NURSE is above this......... ( I have a great deal of respect for NURSING ASSISTANTS)...SO GET ALL THE EXPERIENCE YOU CAN.....IT WILL HELP YOU PASS. ALL THE BEST......TO YOU ALL..........
  6. ADVICE FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS - great disappointment /JUNE 2010 I too am discouraged. I have been an R.N. in the U.S.A. for eight years. I wrote Alberta crne. I am a Canadian citizen. CRNE /passed and need 225 hrs....TO GET MY PERMIT licence and a reference....whos gotta give me a reference after 5 weeks of knowing me . I wouldnt fill out a reference for someone after only 5 weeks ( arequirement). FOR INTERNATIONAL APP,S. I ALSO HAVE CRITICAL CARE EXPERIENCE! Noone,s even called me for a job interview. I,m starting to feel a bit upset about this. I will tell you, you wont find a job in the U.S.A as a graduate nurse either unless you are willing to go to states like OKlahoma,South Dakota etc......the rural communities have a more difficult time hiring nurses....because there is absolutely nothing there . I am livin in such a communtiy waiting for job offer in Alberta. Its an hour an a half to civilization as I call it. Nothing ,but my work here. NOT ONE OFFER WITH ALL MY EXPERIENCE. dont give up keep tryin.......( THE ECONOMY IS BAD !)
  7. Alberta nurses- i received the mail last week ................i did pass !!! Ontario....i believe yours will be coming soon...this is wonderful. Good luck everyone!!! Sandra -
  8. Yes, i did receive my results, here in alberta. But i am in missoula . My car is broke down. My relative works midnites. Apparently according to my message that was last week ...so that probably means i failed.
  9. ALBERTA nurses-june 2nd writing. I was told by CARNA that results will be going out in the mail today. The results should be in your mailbox at the end of the week. Good luck.....as always Sandra
  10. your in for a surprise...depending on where in MONTANA you will move...The pay is lower than what im used too! Its very clicky here! small town community. A great place to live and start your family. I can share alot with you, Dianne. Where in Montana are you movin. Your nursing licence is 200.00. THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STATE !!! I,VE EVER SEEN!!!!! I can tell you more if you give me your private email as its not appropriate for this site as not to offend anyone. Of course this will only be my opinion pro's an con's. Good Luck
  11. To all who wrote congrats, i have been a nurse for at least 20 years. I have worked many specialty units including critical care.....i felt good about my myself going in this exam. I hold lic for six states. I too had to rush to finish and it was a very difficult exam. Anyone whom passes this exam should know that they are ready to take on anything !!!! Nursing is a life long experience of educating an upgrading....if any albertians read this could you let me know so i can have an idea...when the results are in. Application for r.n. Process ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,from start to finish has been 16 months,,,,,,,,,,,,,to those of you whom are international.....best of luck.......p.s........it may be a while before i talk to any of you..back to travelin.......and to my fellow canadians the u.s. Exam is a piece of cake..........the difference is in the style of information presented. Your licence will be a stepping stone for you to build ... Your specialty skills! Every passing r.n. Deserves a party!!!! ( a party !*&*&**!) lolo as always sandra.....yes im shouting for all the people who have achieved passing even the course!!!!
  12. Any alberta writers get results !!!!! Yes im shoutin from the roof tops with congrats to those who passed.....i was the oldest writer have several lic...in other country...it was a difficult exam!!!!
  13. I am in Alberta,Canada with my spouse. I HAVE BEEN IN NURSING ALL OF MY LIFE. I have my nursing license in six different states, but applied to Alberta. It seems it may take forever. You are luckly! One of the states I hold my license in is Washington state. I have researched it already. The hospitals pay around 46.00 u.s. an hour in Washington state.Tell me is the Canadian exam difficult?. The U.S. one is very easy! It's completely different. Here it 's all psychosocial. In the U.S. it's Tx,, Dx's etc. I 'm worried that it will be difficult to pass. I'm probably old enough to be your mom. My oldest is 32 years old. I also have a daughter in nursing in Ontario,Canada. I wrote R.P.N. EXAM AT 21 YEARS OLD .I let that license go to boring for me . I went to school in the U.S. because a U.S. hospital payed for it.I've been an R.N six years. While waiting for Alberta paperwork I will probably work in either Montana or Washington state. The fact that I'm dual makes it easier for me. After all when you have six kids you have to put to college. YA have to work where ever you can! My mom once adviced me not to have such a large family ,now I know why lol! YOUR ALWAYS BROKE! LOL P.S. please do excuse my typing as computers and all are new to me. Thank-you all for your help. I'm learning something new on this site every day!
  14. Where will you work in B.C. are you near the boarder. Where in b.c. are ya from? Congrats! Sandraann
  15. Congrated to all of you whom passed. I did write the nclex nothing like the Canadian exam. KNOW ALL YOUR DX.'s PROCESS. The American exam is easy. It is not psychosocial. I would start to study. When I took the exam six years ago . It shut down after 75 question's. I passed one attempt. I,m concerned I won't pass the Canadian exam ? What do you think? There's a lot of what would you do if on the Canadian one is there not. ( psychosocial) ? I have always practiced in U.S.A. and now am going to try Canada. I hope I like it. What do you all think? Any opinions out there? The license part is a long wait! applied April 27 th. Still no word yet. P.S. Please excuse my typing as I'm new to computer's and I'm much older then most of you. They say life begins after 50 ! lol All the Best to you young ladies! Sandraann
